          Morris Drury fonds

          The fonds consists of letters written by Drury to his mother, grandmother, grandfather and aunt Fran. The letters discuss Drury's day to day activities, the people he has met and the places he has visited. In the last letter Drury describes his experience with the Fleet Illuminations and includes a newspaper clipping (17 July 1935) covering the event.

          The letters are hand written in ink and pencil on varying qualities of paper. A preservation copy was made of a letter written in pencil on poor quality paper. Repair work was done to the newspaper clipping and a preservation copy included in the file.

          The collection consists of the History of United States Army Base Hospital No. 20 (Philadelphia, 1920): 257 pages with many illustrations; as well as 16 photographs, 1918. The material appears to come from May Grenville of Thorold, Ontario, who served as a nurse with the hospital. There are initial photographs of her at Ellis Island, where the nurses were stationed before setting out for France. It then includes photos of the staff, as well as some of the various personnel Grenville served with in Mobile Surgery units, plus a postcard of the chapel at Chatel-Guyon, where the hospital was. In addition to photos related to the hospital, there are two photos of Canadian soldiers, as well as two photographs of grave markers at Vimy Ridge taken on 22 December 1918. The names on the grave markers are F. Thornton and Charles Grenville, her brother. Finally, there is a small, unidentified photograph of a number of women seated on one side of a sunny room. A number of the photos appear in the book.

          The fonds consists of letters to his wife and family, official notification of his death, letters from his fellow soldiers to his wife, a notebook with brief entries of the regiment’s movements and lists of soldiers, and photographs. Most of the photographs were taken in Egypt. They include a railway station, encampments, a football pitch and camel transport, as well a photograph of Sgt. Haydon. Also included in the fonds are photographs of Haydon’s brother Ted and his wife’s brother Peter Ryan, both of whom served in the War.

Peppiart about Stephenson’s enlistment, a letter from Edwin, 2 greeting cards from Norma (his sister), and a photocopy of a letter from Roy to Harry (Henry Arthur Stephenson, 22 October 1918); (11) 8 b&w photographs (several being reproductions), including group photograph of the Burlington Volunteers, 1st Canadian Contingent, and the grave site of A.T.           The collection consists of Windridge’s war medals and various military and civilian pins and badges, various service records and discharge papers and a couple of photographs. Included is a matchbox, with a holder made by Windridge with a small Scottie dog figurine, which must have been a good luck charm for him. There is also correspondence mostly from Windridge and his wife to his daughter during the period of the Second World War.

The second series consists of letters Eric Caiger wrote to his parents, 1939-1947. There are also a few letters to him from his parents and others.

          Robert Percy Wright fonds

          The fonds consists of three bound journals. Each journal is brown, stamped "Army Book 152. Correspondence Book. (Field Service)". The first journal contains entries from 15 May 1915 to 31 October 1915, as well as a spoof on Genesis from the Bible, some camp and other maps and drawings, and a biographical sketch of Wright written by himself including a long list of his athletic achievements. The second journal contains entries from 14 November [1915] to 30 August [1916], a list of his military leaves, maps, and one loose sheet of paper dated 13 June 1916. Wright was by then a Lieut.-Colonel. The third journal contains entries from 1 September 1916 to Saturday [2 December 1916] including some maps. Wright was stationed at the Vadencourt Chateau, and the third journal includes a building plan sketch and a map of the camp. The first journal is written entirely in ink; the other two journals are in ink and pencil. The journal entries begin with a weather description as does his official war diary. The fonds also contains Wright's official War Diary as A.D.M.S, 1st Canadian Division from 1 January 1918 to 31 December 1918. The diary is black and stamped "War Diary 1918". Each typewritten entry (except for the first few) has been initialled by Wright. In addition to the typewritten entries, the diary contains mimeographed orders, typewritten and mimeographed correspondence, maps and diagrams. There are 139 typed pages, 157 folio pages, and 10 maps.

          The fonds consists of detailed first-hand personal records written by Browne at Boulogne as well as classified printed documents heavily annotated, by Browne’s hand, which had been produced in extremely limited numbers.

          HMS Carnarvon Fonds

          There have been two accruals. The first accrual consists of two night order books, 1914-1915, 166 pages and 1915, 161 pages. The second accrual consists of a bound notebook (40 pages) containing a memoir written by George H.J. Hanks who was a Sick Bay Attendant on the Carnarvon. It was written in 1915 in Montreal while the ship was undergoing repairs and contains an extract from the ship's log for the Battle of Falkland Islands (p. 40). The fonds is supplemented by a transcript of the diary prepared by Robert K. Hanks, available in hard copy and on a CD. It includes additional documentation, including profiles of opposing fleets and maps

          Shipboard engines fonds

          Fonds consists of a notebook on shipboard engines kept by unidentified person, 172 p. with diagrams. The notebook begins with "Working and Installing Boldiners Crude Oil Engines". At the end of the notebook, the note-keeper turned it over and began a new section titled "Notes on Starting Running and Maintenance of Bon-Accord Paraffin Engine Pumping Set".

          The fonds consists of Parr's journal, a bound manuscript, 90 pages in length. The first entry in the first section is 2 Aug. [1914] when he leaves home. The next day he boarded HMS Canopus. The last dated entry is 8 June [1915] which notes orders to proceed to Malta. The next section, titled "Our Food Supply" covers the same time period. The third section contains some reflections on the ship's officers.
