The collection consists of an Ontario Provincial Police report of a meeting held by Tim Buck in 1939, 4 audio discs duplicated onto 2 audio cassettes containing speeches by Buck, a printed foreword by Buck to litho prints by Avrom Yanovksy as well as the prints, and fourteen b&w photographs concerning the Labor-Progressive Party, Today Magazine, and the International Economic Conference in Moscow in 1952. The Conference proceedings are also included in the collection as well as an offprint of an article by Buck.

Thomas and Matthew Arnold collection

There have been two accruals. The first accrual consists of four letters from Matthew Arnold to different correspondents: S. Wordlaw McAll, Rev. Charles Anderson, Blanchard Jerrold, R.C. Trench, Archbishop of Dublin, 1870-1884.The letter to McAll, 18 June 1870, is published in The Letters of Matthew Arnold, edited by Cecil Y. Lang (Charlottesville: U. of Virginia, 1996-2001): Vol. 3, p. 424. Also included in this accrual are: a letter from Thomas Arnold to [Thomas?] Burbridge, 2 December 1840 and a poem ("Persistency of Poetry"), 4 lines, signed by Matthew Arnold and dated 30 December 1884. This accrual also contains a note written 11 February 1891 at Park Hill, Lyndhurst. It appears to be signed "R"; Park Hill was at that time a school established by W. Rawnsley. The second accrual consists of a letter written by Thomas Arnold at Rugby on 20 April 1842, addressed to “Dear Sir”; it concerns the manufacture of a window.

Thomas D'Arcy McGee collection

The collection consists of 23 letters from McGee to John O'Donohoe (1824-1902), a senator.The McGee collection also contains the research materials of J. Alexander Wallace, M.P., who wrote a Master's thesis on McGee at McMaster University in 1916. The materials include: correspondence, interview notes with John M. McGee, half-brother of Thomas D'Arcy McGee, typed copy of a letter from McGee to A. M. Sullivan, editor, Nation, Dublin, 25 June 1866, and research notes concerning McGee and Whelan. (Note: There are letters from O'Donohoe in the Patrick Francis Cronin collection.)

The temperance collection consists of manuscripts, correspondence, pamphlets, leaflets, posters, news clippings, government documents from various countries, lantern slides and realia. There have been four accruals; the first two accruals have been combined. Serials and monographs belonging to these accruals have been separately catalogued.

The black and white photographs were either taken and/or collected by H.C. Hodgens of Peterborough, Ont. He was presumably an employee of Morrow and Beatty Ltd. Most of the photographs are undated, but those that are dated were taken in 1927 and 1928. Some of the photographs have either written or typed captions. They depict the Mattagami River, Smoky Falls dam and power plant, the paper mill, the rail line as well as unidentified men. Most of the photographs have numbers stamped on their versos from 00 to 96. They have been removed from an album.

The second part of the collection consists of news releases, letters to employees, and other communications created during the 1968 labour dispute between Papermakers and Paperworks Union, Local 256, and the Spruce Falls Power and Paper Co. Ltd. and Kimberly-Clark of Canada Ltd. The material belonged to John Grimshaw, who was the mediator for the dispute.

There have been four accruals. The collection consists of amateur and professional sports as well as recreational sports from Canada and the United States. It includes photographs, posters, pamphlets and leaflets, programs, calendars, a scrapbook and an engraving, cards and other items.

There is correspondence from the following: Phil Bard, Edward K. Barsky, Ralph Bates, Fred Biedenkapp, Anita Brenner, Howard Fast, Mrs. Henry Goddard Leach, Dorothy Parker, John Dos Passos, Paul Robeson, Vincent Sheean, John Sherman, Milton Wolff.

The collection consists of seven statements of expulsion from the Yonge Street Monthly Meetings mostly held at Pickering. One of the statements makes specific reference to Elias Hicks. More than one of the statements makes reference to participation in the Rebellion of 1837 which violated the known Christian Testimony against war. There is also an extract from the Yonge Street Monthly Meeting held on 12 December 1839 and a one-leaf untitled, unsigned manuscript of religious writing.

A legal document; James Peters, Maury County, Tennessee, 16 August 1823, re dividing land and slaves;
A letter by Jno. (John) A. Collins, 4 October 1884, to Charles E. Chapman who had requested Collins’s autograph. In the letter Collins writes that he thinks Chapman may be related to Maria W. Chapman, an abolitionist. Collins writes of his memories of her activities in the Anti-Slavery movement.

Sir Terence Mervyn Rattigan - Variation on a Theme, a new play

Mimeograph, typescript, and typescript carbon of "Variation on a Theme, a new play by Terence Rattigan". Written on the title page in pencil is “corrected by the author and his secretary”. Rattigan has written in ink: “To Cuthbert with great love and appreciation of his appreciation. Terry Rattigan.” Also one programme from The Streatham Hill Theatre and a photocopy of the notes about this play prepared by Bertram Rota Ltd. in preparation for its sale.
