There have been three accruals. The collection consists of materials mainly related to travel in Canada. It includes pamphlets and leaflets, maps, posters and information about various methods of travel.

The collection consists of the following: 12 price lists (1926-1937), 5 dinner programmes primarily for company executives (1928-1952), 1 b&w photograph of company executives (1938), 2 product packages pamphlets, a salesmen’s convention pamphlet (1924), a b&w photograph of a display of company products, 1 letter (1940), and a poster for Lowney’s Husky Brazil chocolate bar.

Spruce Falls Power and Paper Company

The black and white photographs were either taken and/or collected by H.C. Hodgens of Peterborough, Ont. He was presumably an employee of Morrow and Beatty Ltd. Most of the photographs are undated, but those that are dated were taken in 1927 and 1928. Some of the photographs have either written or typed captions. They depict the Mattagami River, Smoky Falls dam and power plant, the paper mill, the rail line as well as unidentified men. Most of the photographs have numbers stamped on their versos from 00 to 96. They have been removed from an album.

The second part of the collection consists of news releases, letters to employees, and other communications created during the 1968 labour dispute between Papermakers and Paperworks Union, Local 256, and the Spruce Falls Power and Paper Co. Ltd. and Kimberly-Clark of Canada Ltd. The material belonged to John Grimshaw, who was the mediator for the dispute.

There have been two accruals. The first accrual consists of documents pertaining to the sale of the company. They are: the Report of the Annual Meeting on 28 October 1915 – with sections on bicycles, accessories and skates, motor cars, Canadian military, and the sale of the business in Australia. It includes a balance sheet from 15 July 1915. There are two letters from Arthur E. Watts, County Clerk and Solicitor, Brantford, Ontario, to Donald E. Bridgman of Minneapolis, Minnesota with regard to his stock held in the company. There is a telegram sent by F.F. Henry in Buffalo, New York to Fred G. Atkinson re the sale of the company. Finally there is a five sheet document typed on paper from The Bradstreet Company outlining the history of the company and its sale in December 1915. The second accrual consists of a request for payment letter with invoice dated 1911; an Automobile Accessories Catalogue issued by the company in 1912; and a pamphlet "Soldier-Citizens, Something of the work carried on by the Russell Motor Car Ltd." Written by Catharine Beverley Robertson the illustrated pamphlet outlines the re-retraining of disabled soldiers and was published in 1918.

Israel Moise (Isy) Esses fonds

There have been two accruals. The first accrual consists of three copybooks, 1934-1938, kept by Isy Esses. The copybooks contain carbons of his handwritten letters as well as financial statements and shipment lists. Other documents, such as telegrams, receipts, invoices, and bills of exchange, are either pasted into the books or found loose. There are also incoming and outgoing letters and other documents, 1938-1941, which have been removed from a binder. The second accrual consists of one copybook, 1939-1942, as well as several files of correspondence. Almost all of the fonds is in English, although there are a few documents in Arabic.

The fonds consists of b&w photographs removed from an album. They are both family and business photographs. The business photographs include one with a group of men standing in front of a make-shift building with the sign “Robert Miller & Sons, General Contractors”. Many photographs show the construction of what appears to be a lock wall with gates. The family photographs include the following: formal family portraits, one of which is captioned “Young Fred”; vacation photographs at the family cottage north of Toronto – one is dated 1904 – with boats; vacation photographs of a trip out West possibly in the mid to late 1910s, including the Yale Hotel and Stanley Park; photographs of various family members in automobiles with one captioned “Packard?”,possibly mid to late 1910s; lakeships, group on a boat, children playing and other photographs. In addition, the fonds contains the marriage certificate of Fred R. Miller and Edna A. Noxon.
