    Biographical history

    Blanche (Hutchinson) Frappier (1918-2002) served in the Canadian Forces during the Second World War. Blanche Frappier was born in Nottingham England. She immigrated to Canada in 1938 and joined the Canadian Women's Army Corp shortly thereafter. The couple married in 1945. In 1947 they moved to his hometown of Sudbury.     Biographical history

    Edward Joseph Frappier (1918-2006) served in the Canadian Forces during the Second World War. A resident of Ontario, Edward Frappier served in the Royal Canadian Navy. In 1945 he served on the Flower class corvette, the HMCS Kenogami and the coastal defense vessel, the HMCS Glace Bay. The couple married in 1945. In 1947 they moved to his hometown of Sudbury.     Scope and content

    The fonds largely consists of letters written by Edward to Blanche Frappier while Edward served at the HMCS Cornwallis, HMCS Stadacona, and HMCS Scotian shore-based training facilities in Nova Scotia. Letters were also written during Edward’s service on the HMCS Kenogami and the HMCS Glace Bay. These letters are addressed to Blanche while she resided in the Trinity Barracks in Long Branch, Ontario. There is one letter to Edward from Blanche, 26 July 1945.

        Box 1 contains correspondence from Edward to Blanche dating 16 May 1943 until 30 May 1945.
        Box 2 contains the rest of their correspondence, from 5 June 1945 until 18 November 1945.
        Box 2 also contains Blanche’s letter to Edward, correspondence to the Frappiers from Edward’s sister, Sister Xavier de Montfort, letters to Blanche from Pte. Vera Rodgers, and additional letters, greeting cards, and photographs from other friends and family members.
        Box 2 also contains Blanche’s military and financial documents, a naval ribbon from the HMCS Kenogami, and religious pamphlets.
