Manuscript textbook on rhetoric and grammar, with text in Latin and examples in Latin and French. French examples include excerpts from the works of Nicolas Boileau-Despréaux, Jean Racine, and Antoinette de Lafon de Boisguérin des Houlières. Likely produced by a Francophone individual in the province of Lower Canada between the end of the eighteenth century and the War of 1812.

Small coat of arms in lower left corner of drawing. This drawing marks the end of the Latin portion of the text.

Accompanying material: circa 1800 manuscript map in ink and watercolor on paper depicting the 1794-1796 Jay Treaty line dividing waters and coastline of Lake Superior adjacent to present day Thunder Bay, Ontario. Map laid in at front. 1 folded leaf (39 x 24 cm). Housed in separate envelope.
Accompanying material: 1 leaf manuscript copy of the poem "Victoire de Châteauguay", written in 1813 by Joseph-David Mermet, laid in at front. Mermet was a Frenchman and an officer in the De Wattville regiment. Housed in separate envelope.
