Biografie
R.H. De Pencier served in the Canadian Contingent of the South African Constabulary in the South African War. From Montreal, De Pencier was part of the Volunteer Rifles and received the Queen’s Medal. His regimental number was 1662.

The album contains images of South Africa from De Pencier’s time there during the war. It shows numerous places, soldiers, and people. Other photos in the album show snapshots of daily life after the war, including family and friends, as well as important occasions.

Photos relating to South Africa include: New Hercules gold mind, mule line, armoured train, Delego Bay, Sunnyside (Lord Milner’s residence), Heidelburg, Kaffir mail at Standerton, grave site of two Canadians, parade at Driefontein, Black Huse at Orange Grove, Greylingstad, Pretoria, rifle brigade at Roodekop, grave of Martha Johanna Cornelius, fort at Cyferfontein, local civilians, and fellow soldiers.
Soldiers include: S. Bodfish, H.A. Braber, F.B. Irwin, Harry Jackson, J.F. Wandless, E.M. Bendell,, F.M. Dutton, A.S. Player
