There have been three accruals. The first accrual, which consisted of photographic slides and camera equipment, was deacessioned in July 2008. The second accrual (28-1996, 32-1996) measures 1 m, and is arranged into the following series: personal correspondence; legal correspondence and documents; Canadian Red Cross society; Samuel B. Freeman scrapbooks; memorabilia; certificates and awards; photographs and albums. It includes legal correspondence relating to the family property on 341 James St. South. The third accrual (29-1998) measures 3 cm and consists of correspondence, news clippings and a photograph.

The fifth accrual (11-2001) measures 12.5 cm and consists of audio cassettes, a speech typescript and a colour photograph. This sixth accrual (12-2002) measures 6cm and has been arranged in two series: correspondence; typescripts, programs, photographs and printed materials. The seventh accrual (15-2002) measures 5.5 cm and consists of two guest books and photographs of certificates. The eighth accrual (30-2002) measures 10 cm and consists of printed material and two photograph albums. The ninth accrual (14-2003) consists of three issues of Leather Lines: The Journal of the Leather Familty History Society. The tenth accrual (5-2005) measures 12.5 cm and consists of correspondence, honorary awards, and his death certificate and funeral services.

The text of one of these letters was transcribed by Fraser Sutherland in his letter to McMaster of 7 May 1976. The location of the two letters is unknown. Included in the collection are the 1946 and 1949 constitutions, pamphlets, programs, election materials for Tim Buck and others, conference reports, and correspondence course outlines. The material arrived in binders and has been placed in folders for preservation reasons.

The fonds is mainly concerned with the 1946 Stelco Strike. There is a small amount of material concerning the 1941-1942 strike at Lake Shore Mines Ltd. in Kirkland Lake, Ont. which was sent to Kelly in 1946. The fonds also contains an interview with Kelly done by William Ready on 9 December 1971.

The collection consists of nine pocket diaries covering the period 21 April 1916-26 September 1920.
