The fonds contains C.L.M. circulars, C.L.M. administrative files, NC Press and New Canada files, C.L.M. audio cassettes, material received, subject files, and publications received, realia (flags), typescripts, notes, posters, news clippings and other printed materials. The fonds contains a considerable amount of trade union materials.

His library has, except for some rare editions, been dispersed into the Mills Library stacks. The books that accompanied the third accrual have been listed but not yet catalogued.

The major part of the fonds consists of sales invoices. They indicate who was buying what items of Canadiana and what prices were being paid. Almost invariably correspondence initiating or relating to the sale was attached to the invoices and they have been left there. Many of the buyers are Canadian university or public libraries and academics, particularly those in the field of Canadian history. As well as the invoice series, there is a full set of catalogues, financial statements, credit notes, correspondence relating to book auctions and general correspondence.

The fonds contains: correspondence, diaries, plays, short plays and skits, libretti, novel, poetry, short stories, autobiographies, broadcasts, articles, unpublished editorial work, uncompleted work, contributions to publications, publications about John Coulter, subject files, magazines and posters.
