The majority of the material for this collection, especially the early material, comes from two scrapbooks maintained by Valerie Tryon’s father, Kenneth. These consisted of newspaper clippings, photographs, concert programs, and other ephemera. In rehousing this material it was not always possible to safely detach them from their original housing. As a result, the items do not always appear strictly in chronological order.

The fonds consists of correspondence, as well as some printed materials including souvenirs and news clippings.

The archives consists of correspondence and other material related to Stuart Ivison’s service during the war. He wrote home to his wife regularly, and often letters to his children, which comprise the bulk of the collection. There are also letters from his wife and other correspondents. Additionally, there is material from a scrapbook put together by Ivison of highlight from the war. Many of the occasions are mentioned in the oral history found in Box 2, File 25.

The fonds consists of letters of thanks to Mrs. Joselin from British and French families who received donations of clothing, and letters to Joselin from her friend, Bettina (‘Bun’) Somers.

Titles of series (with the exception of 22 and 23) are derived from chapter headings used by Thomson for a proposed autobiography for which the materials were gathered. Series 22 has been created by the archivist to contain all the correspondence to and from David Smith. Series 23 has been created to house audio-visual material in one place. The fonds consists of Griffith’s in-flight navigator’s reports of bombing raids over German targets, detailing height, speed, temperature, instrument checks, unusual incidents, bomb release time, course flown, special instructions, and observations, and corresponding course maps. Fifty-two of the maps included in this fonds are World War II Bomber Charts, namely Topographical Maps, Lattice Topographical Maps, Radar Plotting Charts, Plotting Series Maps, Aeronautical Maps, and Canadian Air Navigation Charts. There are also three notebooks.

The fonds also contains an air force uniform (Pilot Officer jacket, trousers, felt “long johns,” two Royal Air Force “blue shirts.”); Griffith’s shoulder boards and air force and officer hats; 5 navigation protractors (3 of which are handmade); various patch badges including air force, army and naval items; and sample plexiglass from an aircraft window; a sample of airframe; field wound dressing (unused); and a sewing kit, for buttons, badges, and repairs.

There is also biographical information about Griffith and his crew (including the correspondence to Kennedy from Bath and an article from McLean's Magazine, September 2009 describing Operation Gisela); Leave Guide for London (a YMCA brochure), an issue of Time and Tide: Independent Non-Party dated 14 April 1945; 7 annotated photographs of the Halifax III and its crew, a Crew Roster for the 76th Squadron RAF for the week ending 22 December 1944.

The fonds contains letters and cards written to Westhead while he was overseas. The letters are from Westhead’s wife, Maud Westhead, his brother, George Herbert (“Herb”) Westhead, his father, George Westhead, his mother, and his sister, May Brown, all written from 878 Windermere Ave., Toronto Ontario. Some letters from Maud are written from the Lakeshore Hotel in Picton, Ontario. Other correspondents include Art and Ethel Clarke, of Toronto, and other friends and family members. The fonds also contains photographs – four of Maud and two of Westhead’s nephew, Douglas Brown, one of which includes Herb Westhead.

The fonds consists of minute books, correspondence, financial, attendance and transfer records, and job descriptions.

The fonds consists primarily of Fred’s correspondence to Margaret and his parents. Additionally, there are a number of photographs taken while he served, and documents from his life. As well, there are a number of highly detailed maps first from his training and then from the war. The fonds, which relates to Dove’s activities during World War II as Lieutenant Colonel of the Royal Engineers, consists of mine detection reports, technical drawings, photographs, inventory of machinery, and correspondence concerning war risks insurance.

The fonds contains personal documents, appointments calendars, addresses and lectures, overseas visits, correspondence concerning the U.S.W.A. international election of 1973, periodicals containing articles about Sefton.

There have been three accruals. The first accrual (22-1999) consists of eight files of poems, six of which are organized into chronological periods: file 1, 1943-1971; file 2, 1971-1973; file 3, 1973-1984; file 4, 1984-1989; file 5, 1989-1995; file 6, 1996. The remaining files are: file 7 "Vignettes of a Nursing Life", 1989; file 8 poems to Olmec head in Mexico, n.d. All files except files 6-8 have an index to poems contained in the back of the file. The second accrual (15-2000) consists of one file (F.9) of poetry, 1996-1999; the third (03-2001) accrual consists of one file (F.10) of recent poetry.

Fonds consists of correspondence, minutes, receipts, financial statements and details of the various Dorcas appeals.

The fonds consists of two charters: one, dated 1 January 1943, issued by the United Rubber Workers of America to Local 113; the second, dated 27 June 1960, issued by the United Rubber, Cork, Linoleum and Plastic Workers of America to Local 113.

The first accrual consists of 237 letters written by Professor Mendelson to his family, three journals, and travel documents. The accrual documents two periods in Professor Mendelson’s life (1961-63 and 1971-72) when he lived as a student in Israel with his wife Sara. This material is available in Box 1.
The second accrual consists of the unpublished memoir A Life in Briefs. Dr. Mendelson has also provided supplementary material to many of the chapters including correspondence, publications, photos, objects, and ephemera.
