Bill’s, mother, Elaine hosted an interview programme on television in Kitchener and the fonds contains materials related to her career. His great great grandfather was a bandmaster. His son Trevor has his own fonds, although there are a few materials related to Trevor in this fonds. His great uncles, Herbert and Norman Philp who served in World War I, also have their own fonds.

The majority of the material for this collection, especially the early material, comes from two scrapbooks maintained by Valerie Tryon’s father, Kenneth. These consisted of newspaper clippings, photographs, concert programs, and other ephemera. In rehousing this material it was not always possible to safely detach them from their original housing. As a result, the items do not always appear strictly in chronological order.

It includes letters from Ethel Smyth and correspondence of other composers, photographs and engravings. The second accrual consists mainly of an incomplete run of White's correspondence relating to his work as an arts administrator. Some correspondence concerns The Poetry Book Society Bulletin. The third accrual consists of a manuscript and a typescript bound together. The fourth accrual consists to two letters to Keith Scott written in 1953 and 1954 re The Battle of Hexham.
