Eugene McNamara fonds

There have been four accruals. The first accrual (03-2000), measures 6.52 m and consists of 16 series: Poetry; Short Stories; Non-fiction; Fiction; Plays; Poetry to McNamara from Joyce Carol Oates; Contracts; Personal; Sesame Press; Reading and Creative Writing Courses Taught; Conferences; University of Windsor Courses Taught; Reviews of McNamara's work; Correspondence; Dissertation; Publications - sub-series: poetry. short stories, non-fiction, Sesame Press, University of Windsor Review. The second accrual (39-2002), measures 1.60 m and consists of the following series: Journals and Notebooks; Poetry; Short Stories and fiction; Non-fiction; Correspondence; Personal. This accrual is supplemented with a collection of books and periodicals. The third accrual (35-2006) consists of three series: Manuscripts; Personal Materials; Journals and Notebooks. The fourth accrual (28-1010), measures 38 cm and consists of journals, poetry, short stories, and a novel. The fifth accrual (2013-003) consists of the following series: Notebooks, Poetry, Fiction; Seminars, Teaching, Readings and Awards; Correspondence and Personal, Business and Other. The fifth accrual was accompanied by periodicals and monographs containing McNamara’s work. These have been separated from the archival collection and a list accompanies this finding aid.

Sir John William McNee fonds

The fonds (25-1993) consists of McNee's notes, entitled "Gas Cases" contained in a notebook with the printed title "Army Book 136." The notes are in pencil, 21 pages in length, and cover the period May to July 1917. Also in the fonds are reports of the Chemical Warfare Medical Committee, reports of the Special Investigation Committee on Surgical Shock and Allied Conditions, offprints and pamphlets.

Charles Hamilton Mitchell fonds

The fonds consists of two accruals which have been combined. It contains primarily material dating from or related to Mitchell’s World War I military service. The bulk of the material includes correspondence to family, friends, and associates during the period of the war, and memorabilia collected during Mitchell’s travels as an intelligence officer. The latter includes intelligence related material, such as maps, orders, reports and dispatches.

Mitchell himself organized much of his correspondence and memorabilia into nine letter books and four scrapbooks. Letter books largely contain personal letters to family members and scrapbooks contain military memorabilia such as cards and army ephemera, as well as photographs, some correspondence, and intelligence material, often pertaining to the country in which Mitchell was serving at the time.

The fonds contains various drafts of Morton's major books, manuscripts, editorial work, reviews, articles and lectures, unpublished manuscripts, research files, and material relating to Morton's teaching and conference participation. The fonds was supplemented by books from his library which were catalogued for the general stacks.

The second accrual measures 75 cm, and consists of material related to Pomp and Circumstances and 5 journals. The third accrual (02-1992) measures 66 cm, and is arranged in two series consisting of journals and correspondence. The fourth accrual (03-1993) measures 66 cm, and is arranged in three series consisting of: manuscripts, correspondence and journals. The fifth accrual (09-1997) measures 70 cm, and is arranged in four series consisting of: fan mail, fan mail to Farley Mowat answered by Claire Mowat, manuscripts and research material primarily devoted to Pomp and Circumstances, and journals. The sixth accrual (17-2006) measures 64 cm and consists of manuscripts and research material, predomiantly drafts of the author's books Girl from Away, The French Islands, Last Summer in Louisbourg and Travels with Farley.

The fonds consists of 9 letters and telegrams from Hank to his parents in Hamilton while he was in the RCAF, 1944-45; 4 letters from “Mrs. Murray” to Hank’s mother (Mrs. Murray was a Scottish relative of Hank’s Canadian fiancée, Jean Gilchrist, whom Hank visited while on leave), 1944-45; 4 letters from Betty Pearson (WAAF, RCAF, Bedfordshire, England) to Hank’s mother, 1945; and 9 letters and cards from various officials and individuals to Hank’s parents after Hank was reported missing in action. Also includes a photograph of one of Hank’s crewmates (Leslie Payne), and related documents.

The fonds consists of seven accruals which have been combined. The first two accruals are arranged into 15 series consisting of incoming correspondence, outgoing correspondence, Cambridge Magazine correspondence and related material, Heretics correspondence and related material, Orthological Institute and Basic English Foundation correspondence and financial material, other Basic English material, manuscripts, diaries and notebooks, articles and publications relating to Ogden and Basic English, photographic and family material, publications received, notes and catalogues relating to Ogden's book and stamp collection, pictorial material and gramophone records, Cambridge Magazine issues and Psyche photocopies.

The third accrual (01-1993) consists of two letters from Siegfried Sassoon. The fourth accrual (12-1993) consists of two groups of letters relating to the Heretics Society and the Cambridge Magazine. The fifth accrual (22-1993)consists of Ogden's letters to Valerie Winslow. The sixth (05-1994) accrual consists of financial ledgers concerning the sales of Basic English publications. The seventh accrual (08-1997) consists of a post card from Ivy Litvinoff and a book. These accruals have been interfiled with the first two accruals.
