The archives consists of correspondence and other material related to Stuart Ivison’s service during the war. He wrote home to his wife regularly, and often letters to his children, which comprise the bulk of the collection. There are also letters from his wife and other correspondents. Additionally, there is material from a scrapbook put together by Ivison of highlight from the war. Many of the occasions are mentioned in the oral history found in Box 2, File 25.

A letter written to Ernest Jones, 10 April 1941, by Oliver Baldwin. The recipient of the letter, Ernest Jones (1879-1958) was a physician, psychoanalyst, and author.

The fonds consists of letters of thanks to Mrs. Joselin from British and French families who received donations of clothing, and letters to Joselin from her friend, Bettina (‘Bun’) Somers.

Titles of series (with the exception of 22 and 23) are derived from chapter headings used by Thomson for a proposed autobiography for which the materials were gathered. Series 22 has been created by the archivist to contain all the correspondence to and from David Smith. Series 23 has been created to house audio-visual material in one place. The fonds consists of three scrapbooks containing among other things: mimeographs of daily orders, and nominal rolls; photographs, including wounded soldiers after the Dieppe raid, hospitals, British countryside scenes, and Italian scenes including the Amalfi coast and Rome letters and cards newsletters, newspapers, including The Maple Leaf and The Red Patch and news clippings, programs, invitations, realia, including medals, identification bracelet, and a piece of shrapnel.

The fonds consists of his Soldier’s Service and Pay Book issued13 June 1940; his certificate of transfer to the Army Reserve, 20 December 1945, a photograph of him with another soldier in 1944 and an oversize photograph, presumably of Phillips’s company but it has no identification apart from the fact that it was taken in Pirbright, Surrey by Gwyer Gibbs. Sandhurst Royal Military Academy is located in Pirbright.

The fonds consists of documents and photographs mostly related to Pickard’s Naval service during the Second World War and into the early 1960s.

The fonds arrived in complete disarray. His domestic correspondence, bills, bank accounts with many overdraft notices, and numerous requests for payment from local merchants were mixed together with his union papers which, in themselves, had no order either. With the exception of correspondence he received from his friends serving with the Canadian forces during World War II, none of this domestic material has been retained. What remains has been arranged as follows: correspondence; appointment calendars and diaries; labour negotiations; committees; Steelworkers Social Club; finances; conferences; photographs, job descriptions, personal documents, articles and notes, printed materials and realia.

The fonds consists of both personal and general correspondence, manuscripts, notebooks, published novels and various other writings, photographs, and other material. See 'system of arrangement' below for more detail.

The notebook titled "Royal Air Force Note Book for Workshop and Laboratory Records", dated 10 April 1940. It contains his notes on tools, carpentry, airplane construction, and hydraulics, as well as many diagrams and sketches, usually coloured.

The letter concerns Graves' view of poetry and the availability of his own poetry, presumably in response to a request from Vallette.

The collection consists of a few pieces of correspondence, ephemera, and serials containing articles by and about Murdoch. It is a small adjunct to the main book collection of over 400 books and translations by and about Murdoch.

The album contains b& w photographs which depict armoured forces, including tanks, in the field. The creator of the album is not known. The pages are captioned in German and dated. The album begins with the crossing of the Mass River on 15 June 1940. War scenes in Belgium, France and Holland are depicted as well as soldiers relaxing. There are photographs of English, French and German graves. There is one photograph of prisoners. There are also some photographs back in the homeland. A listing of the German captions into English has been prepared by archival staff.

Collection consists of original documents collected by David Diamant over a period of approximately 30 years dealing primarily with the Jewish segment of the French underground resistance; many of the documents originate with communist groups, and some deal with Polish groups. Most of the documents are in French, while some are in Yiddish.

There have been three accruals. The first and principal accrual of the collection was compiled by his close friend and admirer, Frank Holliday. During the 1960s the composer agreed to allow Holliday to tape record him playing his own compositions. Their correspondence over a forty year period as well as the audio reels and cassettes are the core of this collection. The reels have been reproduced on audio cassettes for use by researchers. The number of audio cassettes listed above refers only to original cassettes.

Collection consists of newspapers and periodicals (114 titles, ca. 400 issues); broadsides (33 items); leaflets (341 items); and books and pamphlets (84 items) and other documents (27 items) produced by or relating to the underground resistance in France during the Second World War. Also included are related materials: ephemera from the pre-War and “Phony War” periods (15 items); Free French and other foreign publications (43 items); items related to the liberation of Paris (8 items) and to the period immediately after the liberation (45 items); autograph letters and manuscripts (20 items); and books inscribed by their authors (60 items). Most of the documents are in French, while some are in German or Yiddish.
