There have been several accruals. The first accrual consists of annual reports, ledgers, catalogues, minutes of meetings, bulletins, circulars, correspondence, photographs, news clippings and other items. The second accrual consists of annual reports, speeches, news clippings, and other printed materials. The third accrual consists of company records, media records, records pertaining to the publication of a company history, and photographs.

Series consists of correspondence between Russell and his elder brother, John Francis Stanley (Frank) Russell (1865-1931), spanning from Bertrand Russell's early life until two years before Frank Russell's death. The elder Russell became the 2nd Earl Russell while still a schoolboy in 1878, on the death of his grandfather, Lord John. He was married three times, to Mabel Edith Scott (m. 1890), Mollie Somerville (m. 1900), and author Elizabeth von Arnim (m. 1916).

Some letters in this series were written while Bertrand Russell was in Brixton Prison (May-Aug 1918) and while he was in China and Japan (Sep 1920-Aug 1921). Bertrand Russell's letters which were sent from prison (handwritten originals and typescript copies) contain messages for other individuals such as Lady Ottoline, Whitehead, and Elizabeth Russell, Frank's wife. Also includes correspondence relating to Frank Russell's divorce from Mabel Edith and the resulting felony charge for bigamy and the court case in 1901. The original handwritten letters are often accompanied with a typescript copy. Most of this series was acquired with Archives 1, with 3 items acquired with Archives 2.

The fonds consists of 37 letters from Jack Butler Yeats (1871-1957) to McLoughlin. There is also a Christmas card signed by Yeats, and an unsigned, unaddressed post card, possibly from Yeats. The other items in the fonds belonging to McLoughlin are: a poem by Padraic Colum (1881-1972), "The Sea Bird to the Wave", which McLoughlin notes Padraic wrote down for him one night at the Arts Club in 1958 and two manuscripts, one about the Irish troubles in 1916-1921 and the other a collection of Irish proverbs from a social evening at the Club in 1967. The first manuscript is the result of McLoughlin contacting veterans of the troubles and getting them to write down their memoirs in 1966.

There are several items in the fonds that do not appear to have a direct tie to McLoughlin. These items include: a poem, "Sleep Song", by Frederick Robert Higgins (1896-1941), editor, poet, and playwright; a signed Christmas card from James Sullivan Starkey and E. F. Starkey to J. J. Chicester containing a printed poem, "1939" by Seumas O'Sullivan (1879-1958) and signed by O'Sullivan (O'Sullivan was the pseudonym of James Sullivan Starkey); letter from Katharine Tynan (1861-1931), poet and novelist, to Mr. O'Leary; two letters from W. B. Yeats (1865-1939), poet and playwright, one to Sara Allgood and the other to Mr. Farrell. The letter to Mr. Farrell was removed from the library copy of a book and thus did not belong to McLoughlin. The other items in the fonds are all printed: poems on Christmas cards by Donagh MacDonagh (1912-1968), barrister, editor, poet, and playwright; a sermon by The Right Reverend Robert Wyse Jackson, Bishop of Limerick; and an Irish National Theatre Society programme.

The collection consists of a vast range of records and documents created throughout the University's existence, both in Hamilton and Toronto. However, it is not a complete record of the University's activities.

The fonds consists mainly of the records of the Hamilton and District Labour Council from its formation in 1956 until 1994. There are also some records from the two bodies which preceded it as well as from the Canadian Congress of Labour Area Council. There have been two accruals.

Series consists of correspondence acquired with Archives 1 and 2. (It should be noted, however, that correspondence continues to be acquired). The scope of this series is vast both in terms of the time period covered and the topics and correspondents featured. The letters range from Russell’s teen years to the last year of his life. While the series is called ‘personal’ correspondence to distinguish it from his more ‘political’ correspondence featured in the 300, 500 and 600 series, as well as his publishing (400) and legal (800) correspondence, it touches on all aspects of his life, including philosophy, peace, social issues, love affairs and family matters.

Included is correspondence with Russell's wives Alys (Pearsall Smith) Russell, Dora (Black) Russell, Patricia (Spence) Russell, and Edith (Finch) Russell; Russell's children, Conrad, John Conrad, and Katharine (Tait); the wives of his brother, Frank; and Russell's lovers, Ottoline Morrell and Constance Malleson.

Some of the letters received have been annotated by Russell. In many cases, carbon copies of Russell’s outgoing letters are included; in more recent years, copies of Russell’s replies were typed on the verso of the original letters received. In a few cases, there are also original letters written and sent by Russell that found their way back to him or the archive--for example, those written to Margaret Llewelyan Davies and Lucy Donnelly.

This collection consists primarily of illustrative labels from cigar boxes manufactured by cigar companies in the United States in the last decade of the nineteenth century when cigar companies became aware of the importance of advertising their products to a large number of discriminating cigar smokers. The major companies were: Geo. S. Harris & Sons, Lith. Phila.; L.E. Neumann & Co.; Schumacher & Ettinger N.Y.; and Schmidt & Co. With regard to Canadian cigar companies, Adam Beck. London Ont. is represented, and there is also a box lid from Joseph Winterhalt of Berlin (now Kitchener), Ont. The labels were lithographed with original designs and often patriotic motifs: young women, historical figures, heroes of battles, native people, sports and leisure, Cuba and the Caribbean, and events of the day. The archive consists of material related to his writing, including scripts, manuscripts, essays, and other material. Of note is his first published essay from 1918. There are extensive diaries from 1929-1951, including detailed accounts of the Great Depression and the Second World War. There is also correspondence, photographs, clippings, and other published material.

The letter from Charlotte Stopes to James Graham is dated 26 February 1889 and was found inside Stopes’s book, The Bacon-Shakspere Question Answered (London: Trubner, 1889). The book also contains an inscription from Stopes to Graham. The letter recollects that they met at a British Association meeting in 1876 and that Graham offered assistance with the advancement of the cause of women.

There have been two accruals. The Judaica collection is concerned with Jewish people, organizations, Palestine and Israel. Some of the documents in the first accrual are Holocaust items. The collection contains documents written in 18 languages: English, French, Italian, German, Hebrew, Yiddish, Arabic, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Czech, Lithuanian, Hungarian, Serbian, Dutch, Slovakian, Romanian, Latin. The collection was compiled by Morris Norman. All selling information has been retained in the files.

This series consists of over 20 discrete personal items, including three passports (1919, 1931-36, 1941-46); certified copies of Russell's birth certificate and death certificate, including correspondence relating to his cremation; visa to Soviet Russia, 1920, and other travel documents; various membership cards; two vaccination records; lists of earnings and royalties; schedule of lectures in the U.S. for 1927; photographs of his children (Kate and John); sheet photographs of children at Beacon Hill School; and other material. Received with both Archives 1 and 2.

The collection consists of James M. Slater's diary and bible and Frank Haviland's photographs of steel structures.

The photographs are black and white, approximately 145 x 90mm of steel structures. The majority of them are related to the Standard Steel Construction company. Many of the photos have notations on the back, most of it in short form; it is assumed the notations are related to the construction. There is one photo of a group of nine men, none of them are identified, but it is titled “Standard Steel, Port Robinson Ont.” The photo is circa 1912. There are three photographs of the Falls View Bridge when it collapsed in 1938 which were taken by John A. Cowan of Welland and sent to Haviland. A few of the older photos also bear his initials.

The papers in this collection consists mainly of material from the First World War relating to Lieut. Cullen Perry and Lieut. John Ham Perry of Whitby, Ontario. The Perry brothers came from a family tradition of military service dating from the Loyalist Oliver Hazard Perry, who fought in the War of 1812 (Battle of Lake Erie). Both volunteered when the war began in 1914. The archive consists of letters, photographs, ephemera, and other service material: Military Service Record book, diary, flight log, and other items. Additionally, there is a scrap book kept by John, following the war.

The fonds consists of manuscripts and typescripts; correspondence (includes personal, Bertrand Russell, legal, and newspapers); theatre material; book and journals; reviews of her books; and photographs (many of them theatrical) created by and for Constance Malleson in her life as an actress and writer. The fonds also contains manuscripts, photograph albums containing watercolours by Percy French and other materials belonging to Priscilla, Lady Annesley, which document her life as a member of the Anglo-Irish aristocracy.

Paper soldiers were a popular children’s entertainment or decoration beginning in the 1700s, rising to a height of popularity in the mid-19th century, before all but dying out after the Second World War. This small collection typifies the range of materials on offer from the late 1800s into the post First World War period from German printers (two of the companies were in Germany, the third was in the Alsace region, which at the time was under the rule of the German Kaiser). Some are printed on heavy card (soldaten auf karton, eg. item 1) while others on thin newsprint. There are examples of a number of styles, including simple cut-outs, others that could be glued together to create three-dimensional landscapes and objects, as well as black and white images for children to colour (eg. item 13). There is also one example of the scheibenbilder (target picture) style (item 16). German is always the first language on the sheets, but many included French and English, and some Italian and Spanish, showing the world-wide market for the material.

The Carl Joseph Scholz company of Mainz (founded 1793 and still in existence as of 2015) has a long history in both the printing industry and paper soldier manufacture. At one point their distribution of toy soldiers went as far East as Russian, and west to Great Britain and North America. The company stayed in the Scholz family at least until the Second World War.

Hohenstein & Lange operated in Berlin from 1876-1906. In 1898 the company became a joint-stock company and the inclusion of Druck und Verlag, Aktiengesellschaft Berliner Luzuspapier-fabrik vorm Hohenstein & Lang on item 11, date it to this later period.

There have been many iterations of Carl Burckardt’s original company, but they all maintained a variation of the name. The paper soldiers in this collection are all printed under the Druck u. Verlag v. C. Burckardt Nacht in Weissenburg (Elsass) imprint, which existed from 1890-1906.

Series consists of news clippings, including photocopies, covering almost every aspect of Russell's career. Acquired with Archives 1 and 2; additional clippings have since been added.

Series consists of papers and correspondence relating to the 1891 matrimonial suit initiated by Frank Russell’s first wife, Mabel Edith Scott, on a charge of cruelty; in addition, there was a charge of a 'gross nature' concerning 'a man called X'. The trial lasted four days and resulted in Russell’s acquittal. Russell's solicitor was A.P. Doulton, of the firm Vandercom, Hardy, Oatway and Doulton, who handled much of Russell's correspondence at this time. Also includes two written testimonies for the court proceedings attesting to Frank Russell's character (filed at the end of the series), as well as Mabel Edith's own incoming correspondence (some photocopies) during 1890-1891 covering topics such as her dissatisfaction with her marriage and her desire to separate from and/or divorce Frank Russell. Acquired as part of Archives 1.

The majority of the collection consists of letters from Parry to William S. Hannam, a member of the Leeds Music Festival Committee.

Series consists of letters relating to Frank Russell's careers in politics and the legal profession. Many are from members of the House of Lords, where Russell first took his seat in 1887. Acquired as part of Archives 1.
