Most of the letters are written by Robert. There is also a journal kept by an unidentified man (presumably a Stark) who was living in Cape Town, South Africa from 1830 to 1834. The unbound journal consists of diary entries as the author travels by horse and sometimes by wagon in the area around Cape Town in 1830 and 1831. He often goes to Stellenbosch. The journal has some editing marks in it; at one point the author notes that his father has suggested that he write a book. The diary breaks off in 1831. The final few pages deal with the author’s return from Bombay, India to Cape Town on the “Earl of Eldon” in the summer of 1834.

The letters discuss Drury's day to day activities, the people he has met and the places he has visited. In the last letter Drury describes his experience with the Fleet Illuminations and includes a newspaper clipping (17 July 1935) covering the event.

The letters are hand written in ink and pencil on varying qualities of paper. A preservation copy was made of a letter written in pencil on poor quality paper. Repair work was done to the newspaper clipping and a preservation copy included in the file.

There is also a b&w photograph of Zurbrigg with his plane, a Hudson aircraft, and an invitation from McMaster University to the unveiling of a memorial tablet in Alumni Hall bearing the names of all members of the University who were killed in World War II.

It includes political materials: a comic mock cover of Jimmy Carter on Time magazine, a drawing of President Ronald Regan with “Greacan Formula Hair Dye”, and a group of political figures and party girls surrounding “Dada Uganda”, i.e. Idi Amin. There are also comic drawings, some titled “Scruff”. Finally, there are a two pieces of commercial art for Cedarbrae Volkswagen in Scarborough and Stan Lanes Sports on the Danforth in Toronto. The dates of the contents are more expansive than the handwritten title. The spelling of Deaubin’s last name varies; Deaubin is how he signed his correspondence.

The fonds is contained in a green leather album trimmed in gold. It consists of correspondence mostly addressed to Katharine Birkmyre, although a few letters are addressed to her father, Canon Skelton and to her husband. It also includes invitations, dinner menus and autographs, two photographs of the Red Cross Hospital in Gibraltar, and her admission badge to the Royal enclosure at the Ascot races in 1937. There is one letter from Archibald Philip Primrose, Earl of Rosebery and another from Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman, both prime ministers, to Henry Birkmyre. Both letters concern Birkmyre's defeats in elections held in 1895 and 1899. There is also one letter from Edmund Gosse, poet and man of letters, addressed to Lady Charnwood. The album has been annotated by Katharine Birkmyre.
