The fonds consists of two pilot’s flying log books (22 November 1941 until 2 March 1945), 16 b&w photographs, and a certificate from the Department of National Defence for Air about Ward’s service war record. The two earliest photographs depict Ward as a toddler and the students of his school at Dorchester in 1933. The other photographs relate to World War II: his training at Montreal, friends and acquaintances in the service, and aerial bombardments.

The fonds consists of four letters. Three of the four letters are addressed to James and Elizabeth Firth who lived in Sutton Derwent near York, England. The first letter is dated 15 April 1850 and informs the Firths (his brother and sister) that he and his family are sailing to New York from Liverpool the next day. The second letter, 20 May, informs the Firths of their safe arrival in New York the previous day. The third letter relates the information that the family has settled on a farm of 80 acres in Delevan, Walworth county, Wisconsin. The fourth letter is written by Elizabeth. She notes that her brother died two or three years after settling in Wisconsin. She is attempting to find if any of the family are still living.

Fonds consists of cassette tapes containing recordings of interviews conducted by Neil Armstrong of prominent Black and Caribbean artists, authors, poets, publishers, academics, and politicians for the York University student radio, CHRY 105.5FM. Interviews cover topics such as Black and Caribbean history, literature, community events, international work, and more. Interviewees include The Honourable Lincoln Alexander, Dionne Brand, Afua Cooper, The Honourable Rosemary Brown, Austin Clarke, George Elliott Clark, Louise Bennett (Miss Lou), and others. Some tapes have interviews or speeches made by these individuals outside of a CHRY interview.

Tapes were numbered in accordance with the original order upon arrival. Note: The “A” or “B” following the tape number reflects which side of the tape the recording may be found. Tapes without an affixed letter contain only one recording.

The fonds consists of photographs, military documents, and letters he wrote to his parents and his fiancée, Catharine Carroll. There is also a letter written by Jack Barker to Don’s parents. There are two oversized framed photographs. One is of the “Canadian Armaured <sic> Corps Recruits Draft Toronto Exhibition July 30th 1941.” The second is of “2nd Platoon ‘A’ Coy. OR(T) R’s #20 C.A.B.T.C. Brantford Ont. Winners of Battalion Competition 23-9-41. Lieut. Barker.” His medals do not form part of this fonds; they are held by his grandson, Donald Turner.

His daughter, Sheila Turcon, has written and self-published Donald Galloway: World War II and Beyond, in 2022.

The fifth accrual (05-2011) consists of Ball’s business archives as an antiquarian bookseller of Canadian literature: William Nelson Books (1972-1985); Nelson Ball, Bookseller (1985-2010). The sixth accrual (2016-029) consists of manuscripts, typescripts and proofs for books of poetry and some prose.
