Biografie

Edmund Blunden, English poet and critic, born in London on 1 November 1896. He was educated at Christ's Hospital and Queen's College, Oxford. He spent many years at Oxford University teaching. In 1943 he joined the staff of the Times Literary Supplement. At the time of his death, 20 January 1974, he was a professor at Oxford.

There have been a number of accruals which have been combined for the purposes of description. The collection has been arranged into three series: manuscripts, correspondence, and other. It is supplemented by his books, mainly first editions, which have been catalogued for Research Collections.

An accrual of Finneron letters was acquired in August 1980. One item (a menu) was obtained from I. McKelvie in October 1983. The Shelly related materials were removed from a book in 1986. Four pieces of correspondence and a galley proof for "Sixpence for the River" were purchased from Michael Silverman, Literary and Historical Manuscripts in April 2003 (Accession 17-2003). A letter to H.M. Tomlinson, also notes on Swift were purchased from Bertrand Rota in January 2004 (Accession 08-2004).
