The fonds is mainly concerned with the 1946 Stelco Strike. There is a small amount of material concerning the 1941-1942 strike at Lake Shore Mines Ltd. in Kirkland Lake, Ont. which was sent to Kelly in 1946. The fonds also contains an interview with Kelly done by William Ready on 9 December 1971.

Cigar label collection

This collection consists primarily of illustrative labels from cigar boxes manufactured by cigar companies in the United States in the last decade of the nineteenth century when cigar companies became aware of the importance of advertising their products to a large number of discriminating cigar smokers. The major companies were: Geo. S. Harris & Sons, Lith. Phila.; L.E. Neumann & Co.; Schumacher & Ettinger N.Y.; and Schmidt & Co. With regard to Canadian cigar companies, Adam Beck. London Ont. is represented, and there is also a box lid from Joseph Winterhalt of Berlin (now Kitchener), Ont. The labels were lithographed with original designs and often patriotic motifs: young women, historical figures, heroes of battles, native people, sports and leisure, Cuba and the Caribbean, and events of the day. Their have been two accruals. The first accrual consists of correspondence, manuscripts, biographical information, news clippings, pamphlets, posters, scrapbooks, issues of Grip, 1873-1894, and engraving plates. The second accrual (16-1990) consists of a cartoon and photographs. The fonds was supplemented by many of Bengough's books which have been catalogued.

It contains a signed pen sketch by Ronald Searle (1920-) dated Paris, 1956. The second accrual consists of two brief letters from Beckett to Diane Root. The collection has been supplemented by books which have been catalogued for Research Collections and periodicals which have not been catalogued.

Anthony Burgess fonds

There have been six accruals. The first accrual contains typescripts. The second accrual contains correspondence. The third (28-1991) accrual is an autograph music manuscript. The fourth accrual (45-1995) is a letter from Burgess to William Cole. The fifth accrual (23-1991) consists of letter from Burgess in the personas of his cat Lalage, and his dog, Suke, to Cleo, the cat of Ceridwen Looker. Looker's mother was the sister of Burgess's first wife, Lynne, who died in 1965. The fifth accrual (05-1998) also contains an autograph music manuscript. The sixth accrual consists of correspondence between Burgess and William Ready, McMcaster University Librarian, one letter from Burgess to his publisher and two photographs.

Albert Mansbridge collection

The collection consists mainly of Mansbridge's letters to Leonard Clark. There are also a few manuscripts concerning Mansbridge, Christmas cards, invitations, and announcements relating to Mansbridge, photographs of Mansbridge, and some pamphlets by Mansbridge. This collection was assembled by his friend Leonard Clark. Clark, an educator, author, editor and poet was born on 1 August 1905 in St. Peter Port, Guernsey. He was made inspector of schools with the Ministry of Education in 1936. He died in London in 1981.

There have been four accruals. The first accrual consists of correspondence with among others: William Jennings Bryan, Daphne Du Maurier, Stephen Leacock, Charles G. D. Roberts, Duncan Campbell Scott, Ernest Thompson Seton, and Bliss Carman; manuscripts by among others Archibald Lampman, Marjorie L.C. Pickthall, Charles G. D. Roberts; news clippings and photographs. The second accrual consists of news clippings. The third accrual is a letter by McCrae about Pauline Johnson. The fourth accrual consists of a letter and 2 postcards to Jean Deane, 1905-1906. The fonds was supplemented by McRaye's collection of mainly Canadian books, as well as presentation copies of books given to him by Ethelwyn Wetherald and Pauline Johnson. The books have been catalogued. A listing can be found in the master file. The Pauline Johnson archival material in the fonds was transferred to the E. Pauline Johnson fonds.

The collection consists of the printed announcement of the 1932 convention of the Ontario Woman's Christian Temperance Union, as well as clip sheets for meeting discussions, 1932-1934. On the verso of the convention call is a letter from May Hall, "Y" secretary, to the president, Edith Kerr.

Edward Manning Saunders and Marshall Saunders

There have been two accruals. The first accrual contains the typescript of the Tupper book which has been annotated by Margaret Marshall Saunders as well a typescript of an unpublished work by her, "Poor Phoebe". There is correspondence relating to the Tupper book, including correspondence between Edward Saunders and Sir Charles Tupper (1821-1915). Tupper was a physician from Nova Scotia who briefly served as Prime Minister of Canada in 1896. There is correspondence gathered as part of the research of the Tupper book, including one undated letter from Sir John A. MacDonald (1815-1891) to Tupper. There is also correspondence to Margaret Marshall Saunders, mainly from the 1930s. This accrual also contains photographs and news clippings. This accrual was supplemented by books owned by Margaret Marshall Saunders. They have been separately catalogued. The second accrual is a letter, 28 March 1894, from Margaret Marshall Saunders to Faith Fenton.

Sir Charles Haukes Todd Crosthwaite fonds

The fonds consists mainly of his correspondence with Frederick Temple Hamilton-Temple Blackwood (1826-1902), 1st Marquis of Dufferin and Ava. Blackwood, a diplomat and administrator, served as Governor-General of India from December 1884 until 1888. He was awarded a marquisate for his service in India. Crosthwaite's letters are mainly holograph copies, presumably done by his secretary. There is other correspondence in the fonds.
