The fonds consists of seven accruals which have been combined. The first two accruals are arranged into 15 series consisting of incoming correspondence, outgoing correspondence, Cambridge Magazine correspondence and related material, Heretics correspondence and related material, Orthological Institute and Basic English Foundation correspondence and financial material, other Basic English material, manuscripts, diaries and notebooks, articles and publications relating to Ogden and Basic English, photographic and family material, publications received, notes and catalogues relating to Ogden's book and stamp collection, pictorial material and gramophone records, Cambridge Magazine issues and Psyche photocopies.

The third accrual (01-1993) consists of two letters from Siegfried Sassoon. The fourth accrual (12-1993) consists of two groups of letters relating to the Heretics Society and the Cambridge Magazine. The fifth accrual (22-1993)consists of Ogden's letters to Valerie Winslow. The sixth (05-1994) accrual consists of financial ledgers concerning the sales of Basic English publications. The seventh accrual (08-1997) consists of a post card from Ivy Litvinoff and a book. These accruals have been interfiled with the first two accruals.

There have been three accruals. The first accrual (22-1999) consists of eight files of poems, six of which are organized into chronological periods: file 1, 1943-1971; file 2, 1971-1973; file 3, 1973-1984; file 4, 1984-1989; file 5, 1989-1995; file 6, 1996. The remaining files are: file 7 "Vignettes of a Nursing Life", 1989; file 8 poems to Olmec head in Mexico, n.d. All files except files 6-8 have an index to poems contained in the back of the file. The second accrual (15-2000) consists of one file (F.9) of poetry, 1996-1999; the third (03-2001) accrual consists of one file (F.10) of recent poetry.

The collection consists of interviews contained on audio cassettes along with transcripts of many of the interviews. Most of the interviews are in English but some are in French.

The third accrual (30-1996) measures 1.75 m, and consists of arbitration files, a research manual co-edited by Waisglass, and video and audio cassettes of interviews conducted by Waisglass with several labour leaders. The twelfth accrual (16-2002) measures 6m and consists of correspondence, royalty statements, photographs, clippings, manuscripts and research material. The thirteenth accrual (50-2007) has been arranged into nine series: books, articles, and other writings; public appearances; correspondence; pocket diaries and address book; subject files; news clippings; drawings, photographs and sound recordings; oversized materials. The fourteenth accrual (52-2008) consists of 4 letters to and from T.G. Reed. The fifteenth accrual (2012-001) consists of early writings, contracts, personal and awards, research material, chronological files, printed material, correspondence, photographs and sound recordings. The sixteenth accrual (2013-040) consists of writings; correspondence; personal, art work and graphic publications; subject files and photographs, graphic and printed materials.

The archive consists of the business records of McClelland & Stewart, including manuscripts, author correspondence, editorial decisions, etc.

The fonds mainly consists of the literary archive of the magazine. It contains the correspondence of the editor with contributors, would-be contributors, and others including Robert Bly, Marilyn Bowering, Michael Bullock, George Hitchcock, Robin Skelton (Malahat Review) and Dale Zieroth, manuscript submissions and mock-up pages.

The fonds consists of one folder of correspondence. The correspondence concerns the formation of the Toronto chapter of the Independent Socialists, highlights some of the activities of the Vancouver chapter, including an expulsion, and discusses the distribution of literature, particularly information about the plight of workers in Portugal. Relationships between British, Irish, Australian, American and Canadian chapters and their beliefs are outlined. Correspondents include Jeff Rose, Kit Lyons and Merry Philbin. Don Lake's early contact name in correspondence was David Gordon.
