Scope and content

The collection consists of posters issued by the following British organizations: Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, London; Parliamentary War Savings Committee; National War Savings Committee; Joint Labour Recruiting Committee; Ministry of National Service; Navy; Imperial Maritime League; City of London; and Blue Cross fund. The collection also contains posters issued by the governments of Canada (includes Canadian Victory Bonds), France, United States and Germany. There are a large number of posters from Louvain, Belgium. There are also several posters issued by the German occupying forces in France and Belgium and the British occupying forces in Germany.

Collection was purchased at various times, presumably beginning in 1971. There were additions to the collection in December 1990, May and July 1991, and November 1992. Accession 34-1996 was purchased from W.M. de Freitas, Montreal, in December 1996. Accession 30-1998 was purchased in November 1988. Accession 06-2002 (Canadian Victory Bonds) was purchased from Acadia Bookstore in January 2002. Accession 35-2002 was purchased from Alexander Gallery in September 2002. Accession 43-2002 was purchased from the Alexander Gallery in November 2002. Accession 10-2007 was donated by Michel Brisebois in October 2006. Accession 38-2006 was purchased from the Alexander Gallery (formerly owned by Lieut. A.H. Miller) in December 2006. Accession 17-2007 was purchased from George Flie in July 2007. Accession 18-2007 was purchased from John Rush Books in May 2007. Accession 19-2007 was purchased from John Rush Books in June 2007. Accession 20-2007 was purchased from the Alexander Gallery in June 2007. Accession 03-2008 was purchased in 2008. Accession 15-2008 was purchased in 2008 from John Rush Books. Accession 30-2008 was acquired from Morris Norman in 2008. Accession 31-2008 was purchased in June 2008 from George Flie. Accession 74-2008 was purchased from John Rush Books in December 2008. Accession 77-2009 was acquired from Morris Norman in 2009. Accession 11-2010 was acquired from Morris Norman in 2010. Accession 37-2011 was acquired from George Flie in Oct. 2011. Accession 16-2012 was acquired from Rabbi Bernard Baskin in 2012.
