Historia biográfica
Robert Mayer, businessman and philanthropist, was born on 5 June 1879 in Mannheim, Germany. He was educated at the Mannheim Gymnasium and Conservatoire. He moved to Britain in 1896 and was naturalized in 1902. In 1919 he married Dorothy Moulton, a soprano, who encouraged Mayer to lend his support to music. The Robert Mayer Concerts for Children began in March 1923. In 1932 Mayer was a co-founder of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. In later years his philanthropic interests expanded to include the improvement of relations between countries. In 1979 he published his autobiography, My First Hundred Years (1979).
