The first accrual consists of the administrative files of Hans Sinn and relates to his involvement in three separate projects devoted to nonviolent international peace initiatives. There is an unexplained gap of eight years, 1968 to 1976, in which there are no available records. The fonds is arranged into three series: Series 1: Sanity: Peace Oriented News and Comment; Series 2: Training Institute for Nonviolence, Grindstone Island; Series 3: Grindstone Co-operative. The first series dates from 1965-1967 and includes correspondence, mailing lists and information sheets directly related to the activities of the newspaper, Sanity: Peace Oriented News and Comment. There are several published materials, including copies of Sanity, various international peace related publications and newspaper clippings specifically devoted to the topic of resistance to the United States draft for the Vietnam War. The second series includes reports, notes, training evaluations and correspondence produced in conjunction with the operation of the Training Institute for Nonviolence on Grindstone Island, from 1963-1968; included are photographs, news clippings and circulars. This series also contains the business correspondence of Murray Thomson, a Quaker, who was Peace Education Secretary for Canadian Friends Service Committee. The original filing system of the Training Institute for Nonviolence has been retained in this series. The third series includes the administrative records, financial statements and board meeting reports of the Grindstone Co-operative, dating from 1976 to 1983. As well, there is a proposal for a 1977-78 expansion project, complete with architectural drawings, some correspondence, and a copy of the published work, Making Waves: The Grindstone Story. The second accrual consists of published materials.

Fonds consists of correspondence, bereavement notices, and legal contracts relating to the life of the Reid-Simpson family in the late 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. Of particular note are a collection of English business licenses and contracts on parchment from the early 19th century, James Simpson's pocket diaries detailing his life, and a substantial number of letters describing Thomas Bassett Reid's experiences of India during the 1850s.

The fonds consists of reports, correspondence, photographs, publications, sound recordings and other materials amassed by Ed Seymour throughout his career as a union activist, labour leader and educator with such organizations as the International Association of Machinists, the Textile Workers Union of America, the Communication Workers of Canada, and Solidarity Consulting.. Some of the materials, mostly photographs, are copies from various institutions in Canada and the United States. The fonds documents certification drives and strikes (such as Bell Canada, Eaton’s, Gainers and CIBC) throughout the 1970s and 1980s.There are documents relating to the unions Seymour worked for as well as the United Farm Workers of America.There is also material relating to the founding of the New Democratic Party as well as photographs unrelated to labour, mainly aboriginals (First Nations).

Edward Manning Saunders and Marshall Saunders

There have been two accruals. The first accrual contains the typescript of the Tupper book which has been annotated by Margaret Marshall Saunders as well a typescript of an unpublished work by her, "Poor Phoebe". There is correspondence relating to the Tupper book, including correspondence between Edward Saunders and Sir Charles Tupper (1821-1915). Tupper was a physician from Nova Scotia who briefly served as Prime Minister of Canada in 1896. There is correspondence gathered as part of the research of the Tupper book, including one undated letter from Sir John A. MacDonald (1815-1891) to Tupper. There is also correspondence to Margaret Marshall Saunders, mainly from the 1930s. This accrual also contains photographs and news clippings. This accrual was supplemented by books owned by Margaret Marshall Saunders. They have been separately catalogued. The second accrual is a letter, 28 March 1894, from Margaret Marshall Saunders to Faith Fenton.

There have been four accruals. The first accrual is organized into four series: correspondence, 1968-1981; editorial files, 1981-1983; Art Department photographs, 1927-[1983?]; Scrapbooks, 1960-1976. Authors in the correspondence series include: Lovat Dickson, Hugh Garner, John Glassco, Norman Levine, George Woodcock, Margaret Atwood, Pierre Berton, Matt Cohen, John Robert Colombo, Marian Engel, Mavis Gallant, Margaret Laurence, Brian Moore, Peter C. Newman, Mordecai Richler, Michael Bliss, Kenneth McNaught, George Bowering, Louis Dudek, George Faludy, Ralph Gustafson, Irving Layton, Dennis Lee, Dorothy Livesay, Susan Musgrave, Michael Ondaatje, Miriam Waddington and Tom Wayman. This accrual reflects, to a very marked degree, the tenure of Robert Fulford.

The second accrual (13-2002) is organized into 6 series : Writers Files kept by editor Paul Wilson; Letters to the editor (Christina Brandao, John Fraser, Lisa Rundle, Robert Weaver and Kenneth Whyte); Production; Awards and photographs; News clippings and Card index. This accrual was received with a book collection and issues of Saturday Night from the 1930s and 1940s with a few earlier issues. The book collection and journals are listed separately and will be catalogued for Research Collections independently of this accrual. The third accrual (02-2003) is organized into 3 series: Editorial correspondence; Writers Files and Awards and Letters to the Editor. When the magazine suspended publication in 2005, all files at St. Joseph Media offices were removed; they did not come to McMaster. The fourth accrual (27-2007) consists of printed materials re the history of Saturday Night compiled by George Fetherling.

There have been four accruals. The first accrual consists of offprints of Dr. Salmon's many articles, his degrees and awards. There is also one letter from Cesare Canessa to Arthur J. Evans of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, dated 6 December 1893. This accrual was supplemented by eight books from Dr. Salmon's library which have been catalogued. The second accrual contains articles, reviews, speeches, correspondence, awards, photographs and other documents. The third accrual is Salmon's Cambridge University thesis. The fourth accrual contains seven letters from Salmon to Eric D. Tappe.

Also included are records of the Bertrand Russell Peace Foundation, including those that relate to the International War Crimes Tribunal. The archive is supplemented by a supporting research library of books, theses about Russell, and his publications in periodicals. The fonds also contains the archives of Russell's parents, Viscount and Viscountess Amberley. The fonds has been supplemented with ongoing acquisitions of original material from a variety of sources, as well as copies of selected material held elsewhere.
