Alan Mendelson fonds

The first accrual consists of 237 letters written by Professor Mendelson to his family, three journals, and travel documents. The accrual documents two periods in Professor Mendelson’s life (1961-63 and 1971-72) when he lived as a student in Israel with his wife Sara. This material is available in Box 1.
The second accrual consists of the unpublished memoir A Life in Briefs. Dr. Mendelson has also provided supplementary material to many of the chapters including correspondence, publications, photos, objects, and ephemera.
The third and fourth accruals consist of artwork by Robin Wall.

Valerie Tryon fonds

The majority of the material for this collection, especially the early material, comes from two scrapbooks maintained by Valerie Tryon’s father, Kenneth. These consisted of newspaper clippings, photographs, concert programs, and other ephemera. In rehousing this material it was not always possible to safely detach them from their original housing. As a result, the items do not always appear strictly in chronological order.

William A. Stephens fonds

Fonds consists primarily of 6 volumes of diaries, written by Stephens from 1852 to 1881 (with gaps). The diaries provide significant insight into Stephens’ life, and record events in Owen Sound and throughout Ontario; none of the diaries cover the period when Stephens was writing the poem, Hamilton, though he does refer to the work from time to time. The diaries do include several other poems composed by Stephens. The fonds also includes a charcoal drawing of Stephens, a copy of Bunyan’s The Pilgrim’s Progress that was read to Stephens as a child, biographical information, documents relating to various family members, and other material.

This fonds consists largely of material relating to Calamai’s career in journalism. The files contain professional materials, including research, writing, and items, and some personal materials. There are extensive files for Calamai’s major journalism projects, and there are a large number of files that include clippings and teleprint copies of Calamai’s many news articles. The files also include general reportorial material that Calamai has accumulated during his long career as a reporter. Donated books were removed from the rest of the materials and have been catalogued for Research Collections.
