Fonds contains personal material and records related to Stephen’s professional roles, including speaking notes, correspondence, research material, and audio-visual material. Several series are arranged by the offices he held over the course of his career: i.e., Member of Provincial Parliament and Leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party (1963-1977), Canada’s Ambassador to the United Nations (1984-1988), Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF (199), and United Nations Special Envoy to HIV/AIDS in Africa (2001-2006). The first accrual consists of records associated with the Public Service Alliance of Canada (the strike of the Clerical and Regulatory Group in September-October 1980; the national strike of federal employees in September 1991) and the Canadian Union of Labour Employees (negotiations and agreements between 1982 to 1986). It also contains material on union activity in the Caribbean countries, the Commonwealth Trade Union Council, and the Mayor’s Committee on Community, Race, and Ethnic Relations in North York.

The second accrual consists of the following five series: Public Alliance of Canada (PSAC) Triannual Convention, Toronto, 1982; PSAC National Conference of Education Programs and other, 1990-1999; PSAC National Conference of Regional Reps and Regional Conference of Ontario, 1991-1994; Canadian Union of Labour Employees (CULE) and Commonwealth Trade Union council and Caribbean projects 1985-2009.

The third accrual consists of manuals for the instructors of internal union courses and education programs. The third accrual is arranged by organization, with PSAC coming first, and the others following alphabetically. The material arrived in binders and has been placed in folders for preservation reasons.

The fonds consists of reports, correspondence, photographs, publications, sound recordings and other materials amassed by Ed Seymour throughout his career as a union activist, labour leader and educator with such organizations as the International Association of Machinists, the Textile Workers Union of America, the Communication Workers of Canada, and Solidarity Consulting.. Some of the materials, mostly photographs, are copies from various institutions in Canada and the United States. The fonds documents certification drives and strikes (such as Bell Canada, Eaton’s, Gainers and CIBC) throughout the 1970s and 1980s.There are documents relating to the unions Seymour worked for as well as the United Farm Workers of America.There is also material relating to the founding of the New Democratic Party as well as photographs unrelated to labour, mainly aboriginals (First Nations).

Fonds consists of constitutions, rules, agreements, correspondence, convention proceedings, account books, minutes, seal and stamp from locals 1834 and 1795 (merged into local 1795 in 1979).
There have been nineaccruals. The first accrual measures 46 cm. The second accrual (62-1995) measures 33 cm. The third accrual (13-1996) measures 30 cm. The fourth accrual (5-1997) consists of 2 files. The fifth accrual (29-1997) consists of 10 files. The sixth accrual (02-1998) consists of 3 files. The seventh accrual (09-1999) measures 38 cm. The eighth accrual (25-2002) measures 12 cm. The ninth accrual (18-2006) measures 12 cm.

Harry J. Waisglass fonds

The fonds consists of five accruals. The first accrual measures 1.35 m, and consists of photographs, minutes, reports, memoranda, notes, and correspondence relating to Waisglass's various positions. The second accrual (20-1990) measures .45 m, and consists of addresses, articles, and notes by Waisglass in original and printed form, files of correspondence and notes on some of the positions held by Waisglass. The third accrual (30-1996) measures 1.75 m, and consists of arbitration files, a research manual co-edited by Waisglass, and video and audio cassettes of interviews conducted by Waisglass with several labour leaders. The fourth accrual (33-1997) measures 33 cm, and consists primarily of arbitration and grievance files. The fifth accrual (15-2001) consists of correspondence, letters to the editor, lecture notes, articles, thesis, and biographical information.

The collection consists of various items relating to Labour history.

  • Tie has drawing of a man in chains with the caption: Repeal Taft Hartley Law.
  • Three audio discs were produced for the Canada Department of Labour by the National Film Board of Canada. Their titles are: Technical and Vocational - - -Training in Canada, Unemployment Insurance in Canada, Labour Management in a Changing World. They are for use with filmstrips which are not extant. One audio disc was issued by the Canada Department of Labour. Its title is: Better Together, Main dans La Main.

Fourth accrual (11-2010): St. John's Allied Printers' Union, Evening Telegram strike, 1979, two printed documents, "Don't Scab" and "Boycott the Telegram"

The documents in this collection were gathered by Robert Kristofferson for a biography about Mr. Jaggard, The Bob Jaggard Story. They concern Jaggard's involvement with his union and the labour movement, politics, and local causes and consist of correspondence, news clippings, an incomplete court transcripts. Most of the documents are photocopies.
