Collection comprises letters and manuscripts from authors writing in the English language, predominantly in the 20th century.
The first accrual comprises five series: Academic Research and Teaching; Literary Records; Journalism and Television Production; Correspondence; and Personal Records.
Echlin, Kim
The fonds consists of records related to Ellen Seligman’s professional career at McClelland & Stewart (1977-2016) and PEN Canada presidency (2009-2011). A small subset of records, predominantly photographs, are related to Seligman’s personal life.
Series groupings have been supplied by the processing archivist following functional analysis. Principal documentary forms include correspondence and photographs.

Art Cooper Collection of Comic Art and Fanzines
Collection contains original artwork and copies of posters for the McMaster Campus Cinema screening program; posters or comic art created or collected by Art Cooper; and fanzines and mini comics created in the Southern Ontario region, particularly in the early 1970s.

Fonds consists of material related to several documentary projects, including Tuesday Night: Politics of Entertainment and ‘The Hollywood Ten’ (CBC-TV, 1970) and The California Movie (CBC-TV, 1970); material from his war-time freelance coverage of the Vietnam War; travel journals; photographs taken during research for his documentary on the Soviet war in Afghanistan, Witnesses (1988); and clippings.

Patience Josephine Ruth (Jo) Vellacott fonds
The Jo Vellacott fonds contains extensive documentation regarding Vellacott’s work as a historian of women, feminism, pacifism, and Bertrand Russell, both as an academic at several Canadian universities, as well as her work as an independent scholar. The fonds contains a significant amount of correspondence, both personal and professional, which spans almost the entirety of Vellacott’s life. Fonds also contains materials relating to Vellacott’s education, particularly her PhD work at McMaster University, and much of her personal and scholarly writings. It also contains materials relating to Vellacott’s Quakerism and involvement with the Thousand Island Monthly Meetings, as well as photographs of Vellacott and paintings and sketches she made.
Vellacott, Patience Josephine Ruth (Jo)
Fonds consists of cassette tapes containing recordings of interviews conducted by Neil Armstrong of prominent Black and Caribbean artists, authors, poets, publishers, academics, and politicians for the York University student radio, CHRY 105.5FM. Interviews cover topics such as Black and Caribbean history, literature, community events, international work, and more. Interviewees include The Honourable Lincoln Alexander, Dionne Brand, Afua Cooper, The Honourable Rosemary Brown, Austin Clarke, George Elliott Clark, Louise Bennett (Miss Lou), and others. Some tapes have interviews or speeches made by these individuals outside of a CHRY interview.
Tapes were numbered in accordance with the original order upon arrival. Note: The “A” or “B” following the tape number reflects which side of the tape the recording may be found. Tapes without an affixed letter contain only one recording.

Collection consists of scripts and artwork from two of Ho Che Anderson’s comics: I Want to Be Your Dog (an erotic comic originally published in five issues from 1990-1991 and later released as a collected edition in 1996) and Miles from Home (published as a digital edition in 2013).
Content warning: Collection features sexually explicit materials, including records which depict sexual assault.

Gary Barwin Collection of Chapbooks, Broadsides, and Literary Periodicals
Collection consists of chapbooks, broadsides, literary periodicals, and ephemera collected by Barwin from predominantly Canadian small presses. 138 small presses are included in the collection, with heavy representation from influential chapbook publishers above/ground press, Proper Tales Press, and No Press. Barwin’s press, Serif of Nottingham, is also heavily featured.

The fonds consists of records related to Charlotte Gray’s writing career, particularly the period from the late 1990s on when she began producing non-fiction monographs on Canadian subjects and persons. A smaller subset of records attests to Gray’s activities as a cultural commentator and lecturer from the 2010s on.

Fonds consists of Judith Robinson’s correspondence; clippings of her newspaper writings; drafts, notes, and research files; working records of NEWS; personal material; petitions and other material related to the Christie Street Hospital campaign; manuscripts and writing related to her books, published and unpublished; and manuscripts and writing by her friends sent to her for editing.

Fonds includes typescripts (including one Lennox Ballister story), writing fragments, and a teaching assignment from the Arts and Letters School. Also includes a typescript of a short story by Phyllis Jean McKishnie.
McKishnie, Archie P.
Fonds consists primarily of 6 volumes of diaries, written by Stephens from 1852 to 1881 (with gaps). The diaries provide significant insight into Stephens’ life, and record events in Owen Sound and throughout Ontario; none of the diaries cover the period when Stephens was writing the poem, Hamilton, though he does refer to the work from time to time. The diaries do include several other poems composed by Stephens. The fonds also includes a charcoal drawing of Stephens, a copy of Bunyan’s The Pilgrim’s Progress that was read to Stephens as a child, biographical information, documents relating to various family members, and other material.

The fonds consists primarily of material related to writing, publishing, and promoting her novels: Stealing Nasreen, Six Metres of Pavement, and All Inclusive. As well as some additional writing material.

The fonds consists of notebooks (35 items) in which Wilson recorded his thoughts, ideas for songs, draft lyrics, occasional drawings, photographs, and more, ca.2003-2010 (also includes 11 photographs); the Florida Razors’ vinyl recording Beat Music, 1986; 14 sound recordings on tape of the Florida Razors, Junkhouse, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, and Wilson solo material; notes and annotated galley proofs of Beautiful Scars; and two paintings by Wilson.

The fonds consists of manuscripts of books, scripts of radio and tour shows, movie scripts, diaries, notebooks of research, photographs, memorabilia and ephemera.
McLean, Stuart, 1948-2017
The fonds consists of audio cassettes, which are correspondence tapes and narrative, research, and memoir tapes that Madzy created later in her life. The correspondence tapes were sent to friends and close family members. The fonds also included two of Madzy’s published books, Land for Our Sons (1958) and Madzy’s Dutch translation Land Voor Onze Zonen (1960), which have been catalogued separately for Research Collections.

The fonds consists of research materials, manuscripts, and correspondence pertaining to Brandis’ writing activities; these files depict the extensive research, planning, and revision that she has undertaken while writing. The first two accessions are arranged under 5 series: Writing, Public Talks and Events, Promotional Materials, Printed material about Brandis, and Artwork. The third accession is arranged into 4 series: Published Work, Unpublished Works, Talks and Teaching, and Reviews and Awards. A number of her books were removed from the rest of the materials and have been catalogued for Research Collections.
