Fonds consists primarily of 6 volumes of diaries, written by Stephens from 1852 to 1881 (with gaps). The diaries provide significant insight into Stephens’ life, and record events in Owen Sound and throughout Ontario; none of the diaries cover the period when Stephens was writing the poem, Hamilton, though he does refer to the work from time to time. The diaries do include several other poems composed by Stephens. The fonds also includes a charcoal drawing of Stephens, a copy of Bunyan’s The Pilgrim’s Progress that was read to Stephens as a child, biographical information, documents relating to various family members, and other material.

This fonds consists largely of material relating to Calamai’s career in journalism. The files contain professional materials, including research, writing, and items, and some personal materials. There are extensive files for Calamai’s major journalism projects, and there are a large number of files that include clippings and teleprint copies of Calamai’s many news articles. The files also include general reportorial material that Calamai has accumulated during his long career as a reporter. Donated books were removed from the rest of the materials and have been catalogued for Research Collections.

The fonds consists of audio cassettes, which are correspondence tapes and narrative, research, and memoir tapes that Madzy created later in her life. The correspondence tapes were sent to friends and close family members. The fonds also included two of Madzy’s published books, Land for Our Sons (1958) and Madzy’s Dutch translation Land Voor Onze Zonen (1960), which have been catalogued separately for Research Collections.

The fonds consists of research materials, manuscripts, and correspondence pertaining to Brandis’ writing activities; these files depict the extensive research, planning, and revision that she has undertaken while writing. The fonds also contains photographs and two audio cassettes, with one including her reading a selection of her poetry, located in Series 1. The fonds includes a number of notes and material for public talks and award ceremonies in Series 2; there are also video recordings of an awards ceremony and interview of Brandis. There are some early and shorter works by Brandis as well as drawings and acrylic paintings that Brandis created as a teenager in BC. A number of her books were removed from the rest of the materials and have been catalogued for Research Collections.

The fonds consists of 9 letters and telegrams from Hank to his parents in Hamilton while he was in the RCAF, 1944-45; 4 letters from “Mrs. Murray” to Hank’s mother (Mrs. Murray was a Scottish relative of Hank’s Canadian fiancée, Jean Gilchrist, whom Hank visited while on leave), 1944-45; 4 letters from Betty Pearson (WAAF, RCAF, Bedfordshire, England) to Hank’s mother, 1945; and 9 letters and cards from various officials and individuals to Hank’s parents after Hank was reported missing in action. Also includes a photograph of one of Hank’s crewmates (Leslie Payne), and related documents.

The archives consists of correspondence and other material related to Stuart Ivison’s service during the war. He wrote home to his wife regularly, and often letters to his children, which comprise the bulk of the collection. There are also letters from his wife and other correspondents. Additionally, there is material from a scrapbook put together by Ivison of highlight from the war. Many of the occasions are mentioned in the oral history found in Box 2, File 25.
