Bradley-Garretson Company Limited fonds

Fonds consists of a recruitment letter dated 15 May 1915 looking for agents to sell and promote Bradley-Garretson publications. Along with the letter are the postmarked envelope and a return envelope, and three advertising supplements that accompanied the letter. One flyer promotes a publication detailing the sinking of the Lusitania. A second promotes a book entitled The World's Greatest War. The final large poster promotes the book Billy Sunday: The Man and His Message. These supplements were tools used by the agents to promote sales of these publications.

The fonds consists of four letters written to John and Christine McCampbell. All the letters are signed C.C.B. Three are written from Whitney while the fourth is from “Brant and Walker, Z Cross Ranch, Fort St. John, B.C.” The assumption has been made that Christine is his sister and John his brother-in-law, although he does address them as “brother and sister”. The McCampbells are living in Uxbridge Ont. in 1919 and in Thessalon, Ont. in 1922. The most interesting letter is the one written from Fort St. John. He predicts that “this country is going to boom” before too long.

Bill 63, which was designed to guarantee the language rights of the English minority in Quebec, sparked a tide of nationalist agitation. The collection consists of newspapers, press and other statements.

Collection consists of five photographs, all of which appear to have been taken at Bisley, Surrey, England. All photographs depict the team; in three of the photographs the scoring board is also on display. In 1927 the team is identified as winnter of the Mackinnon Challenge Cup. In 1929 the team is identified as the winners of the Rajah of Kolapore's Imperial Challenge Cup. The names of all the team members are printed beneath each photograph; in four the photographs their regiment names are also included.

The collection consists of posters advertising shows by a variety of circuses and Wild West shows including Cole Brothers and Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey. There have been two accruals. The first accrual has 36 posters. The second accrual has five posters, including one in German.

The fonds consists of two series. One series contains correspondence, submissions, photographs (both used and not used) and issue files for Canada: An Historical Magazine. The other series contains microfilms of historical research materials that Gagan used for his book, Hopeful Travellers: Families, Land and Social Change in Mid-Victorian Peel County, Canada West (c 1981). The microfilms include: Canada West census for Peel and Oxford counties, 1851; Ontario census for Peel and Cardwell counties, 1871; Peel County, Chinguacousy township, copy books of deeds, Vols. 1-13, 1820-1877; Toronto township., Vols. 1-9, 1807-1871; Toronto, Gore, Albion, and Caledon townships, abstract index of deeds, villages and farms; Brampton School Board minutes, 1873-1875; Chinguacousy township council minutes book, 1858-1867 and 1875-1887; Caledon township council minutes, 1861-1869 and 1873-1906; Caledon township Board of Health minutes, 1884-1894; Toronto township council minute books, 1844-1854 and 1873-1887; Toronto Gore township council minutes, 1857-1861, 1871-1881, 1882-1895; Mould Board Association minutes, 1888-1892; marriage registers undated; Peel county wills, 1867-. Most of the collection is found in an album with the items either taped or pasted to the pages. The remainder is found loose. It consists of news clippings, in Romanian and Hebrew, documenting her career. There is one English language tear-sheet from the Wizo Review about the film “Strange Holiday” as well as one English language review of the play “The Jolly Pauper” staged in Montreal in 1969 where she played the role of a young boy. The collection also contains programmes, including one signed by Grigore Vasiliu Birlic, one of the greatest Romanian actors. There are also photographs, mainly publicity ones of Ghizi, although there are some family snap shots as well. There are two photographs of her gravestone. Finally, there is a handwritten, undated, unsigned poem in Romanian, “Maicute mes” [My Mother].

The fonds consists of a diary and typescript of the diary transcribed by Dr. Norman Shrive. Passages within the diary include "Sunshine and Storm by a Rifleman,1870" and a brief passage entitled "Journey through Persia and other Eastern countries," written by Corporals R. Murphy and J. Kenderick. Murphy and Kenderick are identified as serving with the 100th Royal Rifles. The diary also contains personal information about Snelling, including family health and business prosperity. There is a page of business transactions from 1873.
