The collection consists of one autograph letter signed by Dr. Johnson, a copper token bearing Johnson's portrait, a typescript of a talk delivered to the Johnson Club in 1921, and offprints of articles relating to Johnson and James Boswell.

Additions to Poems on Several Occasions Canterbury: printed by J. Abree, 1740. The early nineteenth century owner of the book (which has been catalogued as a rare book (C2584), apparently had access to the papers of Mrs. Dixon's niece, Mrs. Eliza Bunce. It seems Mrs. Bunce saw this volume through the press and kept the original manuscripts; from these the owner copied a number of unpublished poems, and added some which were printed in the newspaper at later dates, and lines which were found in a copy of the book in the British Museum. Two leaves are bound in the book and do not form part of the page count above.

Also acquired with the Straus fonds are the following: a collection of his published books and books from his library (for a description of these, see the master file on Straus), which have been catalogued in Research Collections; a pottery monkey, ca. 1880, formerly in the possession of Sala; an oil portrait of John Baskerville by his niece, Miss Gillespey.

Contains a letter written to Robert Hill, a school master. This letter is sewn to page xliii of James Plumptre's A Popular Commentary on the Bible (1827). In the letter More asks Hill to make use of the book himself as she is not sure how suitable it may be for use in school.

Fonds consists primarily of 6 volumes of diaries, written by Stephens from 1852 to 1881 (with gaps). The diaries provide significant insight into Stephens’ life, and record events in Owen Sound and throughout Ontario; none of the diaries cover the period when Stephens was writing the poem, Hamilton, though he does refer to the work from time to time. The diaries do include several other poems composed by Stephens. The fonds also includes a charcoal drawing of Stephens, a copy of Bunyan’s The Pilgrim’s Progress that was read to Stephens as a child, biographical information, documents relating to various family members, and other material.

Thomas and Matthew Arnold collection
There have been two accruals. The first accrual consists of four letters from Matthew Arnold to different correspondents: S. Wordlaw McAll, Rev. Charles Anderson, Blanchard Jerrold, R.C. Trench, Archbishop of Dublin, 1870-1884.The letter to McAll, 18 June 1870, is published in The Letters of Matthew Arnold, edited by Cecil Y. Lang (Charlottesville: U. of Virginia, 1996-2001): Vol. 3, p. 424. Also included in this accrual are: a letter from Thomas Arnold to [Thomas?] Burbridge, 2 December 1840 and a poem ("Persistency of Poetry"), 4 lines, signed by Matthew Arnold and dated 30 December 1884. This accrual also contains a note written 11 February 1891 at Park Hill, Lyndhurst. It appears to be signed "R"; Park Hill was at that time a school established by W. Rawnsley. The second accrual consists of a letter written by Thomas Arnold at Rugby on 20 April 1842, addressed to “Dear Sir”; it concerns the manufacture of a window.

The fonds consists of Russell's manuscripts, correspondence, library, periodicals, offprints, leaflets, photographs, audio discs, audio reels, audio cassettes, films, videocassettes, microfilms, news clippings, posters, some furniture, artwork (including a bust by Jacob Epstein), awards and medals. Also included are records of the Bertrand Russell Peace Foundation, including those that relate to the International War Crimes Tribunal. The archive is supplemented by a supporting research library of books, theses about Russell, and his publications in periodicals. The fonds also contains the archives of Russell's parents, Viscount and Viscountess Amberley. The fonds has been supplemented with ongoing acquisitions of original material from a variety of sources, as well as copies of selected material held elsewhere.

The collection consists of: an original photograph, the Simcoe family estate in Wolford, England, with a woman, possibly Mrs. Simcoe, on the front lawn; a handwritten copy of a letter from her daughter, Sophia Simcoe, originally written in June 1835, mentioning her mother and Mrs. Scadding; a typewritten extract from an article by Henry Crawford Scadding commenting on an event in Mrs. Simcoe's diary. The dates of creation of the latter two items are not known.

Thomas D'Arcy McGee collection
The collection consists of 23 letters from McGee to John O'Donohoe (1824-1902), a senator.The McGee collection also contains the research materials of J. Alexander Wallace, M.P., who wrote a Master's thesis on McGee at McMaster University in 1916. The materials include: correspondence, interview notes with John M. McGee, half-brother of Thomas D'Arcy McGee, typed copy of a letter from McGee to A. M. Sullivan, editor, Nation, Dublin, 25 June 1866, and research notes concerning McGee and Whelan. The twelfth accrual (16-2002) measures 6m and consists of correspondence, royalty statements, photographs, clippings, manuscripts and research material. The thirteenth accrual (50-2007) has been arranged into nine series: books, articles, and other writings; public appearances; correspondence; pocket diaries and address book; subject files; news clippings; drawings, photographs and sound recordings; oversized materials. The fourteenth accrual (52-2008) consists of 4 letters to and from T.G. Reed. The fifteenth accrual (2012-001) consists of early writings, contracts, personal and awards, research material, chronological files, printed material, correspondence, photographs and sound recordings. The sixteenth accrual (2013-040) consists of writings; correspondence; personal, art work and graphic publications; subject files and photographs, graphic and printed materials.

This collection (19-1997) consists primarily of 32 letters, 3 post cards, 2 cards, and other enclosures written by Arthur Stringer and addressed to Mary Belle Edmonds, a school teacher from St. Thomas, Ontario. They first met in 1933 on the Newfoundland-Labrador boat cruise.
