Havens family collection

The collection consists of letters written to Havens and his daughter from family, friends, and business people. There is one letter written by his wife Mary (née Hiscott) when she is away visiting her father who is ill. The letters span four generations: Richards Havens (the father), William (the son), Ciscelia (his daughter) and the Elmes (grandchild and spouse). Many of the letters are written from rural communities in Ontario. There are, however, letters written from the Oakfuskee Hills in Alabama and Emigrant Gap, California.

Boer War stereographs

This collection of stereographic images depicts scenes from the South African War, or Boer War (1899-1902). The images were produced by Underwood & Underwood (and one by the Keystone View Company). The Underwood cards are captioned on the front in English and on the back in English, French, German, Spanish, [Danish?], and Russian. Some of these cards have a more lengthy explanation in English as well. The Keystone View card is only captioned in English, with a lengthy description. It depicts 48th Highlanders of Toronto.

The manuscript lists what appear to be the previous homes of the congregation: Broadway Hall, Brunswick Avenue, and now Bathurst Sreet in Toronto and then a summary of the program for the 28th of August 1904. Following this, it seems that all the congregants signed the book. Loose in the manuscript is a printed list of names and a published picture of the church exterior. Many of the names in the book correspond to the printed list.

Kilmaster family fonds

The fonds consists mainly of invitations to social events, including assemblies, receptions, commencements, banquets and balls. There is a news clipping of a review of the play “Old Soldiers” put on by the Brantford Amateurs in the Stratford Opera House in 1885 in which both Kilmasters acted. Pauline Johnson also acted in this play. There are also programmes, the funeral notice (noted above), a trespass notice, dancing instructions, three letters, a few documents related to the Dufferin Rifles, Jolite Club meeting notices, several news clippings, and miscellaneous printed materials. Most of the activities took place in Brantford and surrounding towns. However, some invitations are from places in Michigan.

Jacobean to Edwardian manuscript letters collection

This artificial collection consists of five sub-collections, each containing letters and associated materials from the Jacobean to Edwardian eras. They consist of a petition to the king of England, a letter from a minister in the French Imperial government, letters concerning mathematical calculations, and personal letters.

Emily F. Murphy collection

This collection consists of manuscripts of reviews written by Murphy. Each review is written on the blank back pages of review copies of books that Murphy received. There are nine reviews in all. Two of the books (Margaret Baillie Saunders's Litany Lane and Florence Edythe Balk-Hedges's The Story of the Catacombs) are only signed by Murphy, without a review inside them.

Jane Abbott fonds

The fonds consists of Jane Abbott’s diary, dated 15 May 1914, to 17 September 1914. The diary is an account of the Abbotts’ visit to Europe, primarily Vienna. The highlights of the diary are the June 28 entry relating to the assassinations and the July 2 entry in which Abbott describes witnessing the return of the bodies to Vienna. The diary also details the Abbotts’ social life in Europe, including their interactions with other American visitors such as Dr. Russell M. Wilder and his wife. The fonds includes 7 documents that were found inside the diary. One of these documents is a letter, dated 26 April 1914, written by Jane Abbott while en route to Europe aboard the TSS Kaiser Franz Joseph I, and addressed to Ruth Abbott of Chicago, likely the sister of Dr. Abbott.
