Letter from the Duke of Marlborough to the Hon. T.G. Earle.

The book contains descriptions of events that took place in the Picardie and Artois regions of France in 1918.

Quittance by the Constable of France [ie Henri de Montmorency, not named in text] of seigneurial rights relating to the seigneurie of Mauregard. This followed on a contract between two parties, the first comprising of the Doya [Dean?] de Billy, escuier, Lord of Mauregard in France and of Manguinard in Beausse, his eldest daughter Catherine de Billy, and his daughters Jehanne and Margeurite de Billy, together with their respective husbands Pierre du Rousseau, escuier, Lord of Monvilliers, and Jacques Daunery, escuier, Lord of La Mothe du Riene. The other party to the contract was Jacques Amelot, Lord of Carnetin, king's councillor in the court of Parliament. By reason of an exchange between these parties of the land of Mauregard, the Constable has discharged 133 ecus of appointed revenue, and, the Lords Amelot and Duy [Dean?] paying him 100 ecus in cash, he discharges his seigneurial rights relating to the acquisition.

These incunabula pages imitate manuscripts with letters added in red and blue, as well as small highlights done to other letters. There is some evidence of illumination or planned drollery in the margin of one page.

The album contains images of South Africa from De Pencier’s time there during the war. It shows numerous places, soldiers, and people. Other photos in the album show snapshots of daily life after the war, including family and friends, as well as important occasions.

The item is a map of Korea showing missions of various Episcopal, Presbyterian and Methodist churches, [1952]. Includes enclosing envelope from mailing.
