William A. Stephens fonds

Fonds consists primarily of 6 volumes of diaries, written by Stephens from 1852 to 1881 (with gaps). The diaries provide significant insight into Stephens’ life, and record events in Owen Sound and throughout Ontario; none of the diaries cover the period when Stephens was writing the poem, Hamilton, though he does refer to the work from time to time. The diaries do include several other poems composed by Stephens. The fonds also includes a charcoal drawing of Stephens, a copy of Bunyan’s The Pilgrim’s Progress that was read to Stephens as a child, biographical information, documents relating to various family members, and other material.

Edward Togo Salmon fonds

There have been four accruals. The first accrual consists of offprints of Dr. Salmon's many articles, his degrees and awards. There is also one letter from Cesare Canessa to Arthur J. Evans of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, dated 6 December 1893. This accrual was supplemented by eight books from Dr. Salmon's library which have been catalogued. The second accrual contains articles, reviews, speeches, correspondence, awards, photographs and other documents. The third accrual is Salmon's Cambridge University thesis. The fourth accrual contains seven letters from Salmon to Eric D. Tappe.

The manuscripts include Mr. Britling Sees It Through, which was published in 1916. There is also correspondence to Seigfried Sassoon. There is a one page memoir of Wells by one of his secretaries, Winnifred Classey. The collection also consists of an extensive holding of periodicals containing articles by and about Wells.

The second accrual consists mainly of an incomplete run of White's correspondence relating to his work as an arts administrator. Some correspondence concerns The Poetry Book Society Bulletin. The third accrual consists of a manuscript and a typescript bound together. The fourth accrual consists to two letters to Keith Scott written in 1953 and 1954 re The Battle of Hexham.

Sound recordings, moving images and photographic slides also form part of the fonds. They are been removed from their accruals and are stored separately.

Facsimiles and duplicates are noted in the finding aid. Subject matter varies: recruitment, Victory Bonds, activities on the Home Front to aid and protect the troops, gas attacks and bombs, ARP. Although this is mainly a collection of posters, there is one photograph (C24) and one calendar (C21).
