Art Cooper Collection of Comic Art and Fanzines

Judaica collection

There have been two accruals. The Judaica collection is concerned with Jewish people, organizations, Palestine and Israel. Some of the documents in the first accrual are Holocaust items. The collection contains documents written in 18 languages: English, French, Italian, German, Hebrew, Yiddish, Arabic, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Czech, Lithuanian, Hungarian, Serbian, Dutch, Slovakian, Romanian, Latin. The collection was compiled by Morris Norman. All selling information has been retained in the files.

Ho Che Anderson Collection

Collection consists of scripts and artwork from two of Ho Che Anderson’s comics: I Want to Be Your Dog (an erotic comic originally published in five issues from 1990-1991 and later released as a collected edition in 1996) and Miles from Home (published as a digital edition in 2013).

Cigar label collection

This collection consists primarily of illustrative labels from cigar boxes manufactured by cigar companies in the United States in the last decade of the nineteenth century when cigar companies became aware of the importance of advertising their products to a large number of discriminating cigar smokers. The major companies were: Geo. S. Harris & Sons, Lith. Phila.; L.E. Neumann & Co.; Schumacher & Ettinger N.Y.; and Schmidt & Co. With regard to Canadian cigar companies, Adam Beck. London Ont. is represented, and there is also a box lid from Joseph Winterhalt of Berlin (now Kitchener), Ont. The labels were lithographed with original designs and often patriotic motifs: young women, historical figures, heroes of battles, native people, sports and leisure, Cuba and the Caribbean, and events of the day. Second World War collection

The collection consists of typescripts, correspondence, photographs, scrapbooks, reports, sheet music, printed materials (Canada, Britain, Australia and the United States) and uncatalogued pamphlets (some in German) pertaining mainly to Britain's participation in World War II. The collection is supplemented by books which have been catalogued for Archives and Research Collections, including a full set of the British Official History of the War, unit and regimental histories, biographies and autobiographies, and volumes on the various battles and operations of the British forces. There is also a poster collection which contains one photograph (#C24).

William Windridge collection

The collection consists of Windridge’s war medals and various military and civilian pins and badges, various service records and discharge papers and a couple of photographs. Included is a matchbox, with a holder made by Windridge with a small Scottie dog figurine, which must have been a good luck charm for him. There is also correspondence mostly from Windridge and his wife to his daughter during the period of the Second World War.

Powys family collection

The collection consists of two accruals. The first accrual consists of correspondence and publications by the brothers as well as publications about them. Powys; Writings about the Powys family and their works; Periodicals. The second accrual consists of two items, an autograph letter and postcard written by Llewelyn Powys.

Harvey Feit James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement Collection

The collection reflects Harvey Feit’s work with Eeyou (Cree) governments and communities in Eeyou Istchee (primarily Northern Québec), particularly around the creation and implementation of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement. The collection consists of the following: academic papers; reports, correspondence, and meeting minutes from Eeyou negotiators and governments; legal records, including factums and transcripts of witness testimonies for various court cases; and news clippings.

There have been two accruals. The first accrual consists almost entirely of printed materials and ephemera. There is one file folder of typescripts and holograph notes. Included in the collection are the 1946 and 1949 constitutions, pamphlets, programs, election materials for Tim Buck and others, conference reports, and correspondence course outlines. Some of the material was issued by the Toronto and Yorks Committee of the party, others by the Ontario Committee. The majority of the collection consists of printed materials and periodicals from a variety of other organizations, in Canada and abroad. There is one signed petition to the Mayor and Council of the City of Toronto which was organized by the Toronto Councils of Unemployed. The second accrual (17-2001) consists of a cigarette once belonging to Tito, correspondence, a speech, Tim Buck programs, and printed autographed materials concerning Paul Robeson.

  • Tie has drawing of a man in chains with the caption: Repeal Taft Hartley Law.
  • Three audio discs were produced for the Canada Department of Labour by the National Film Board of Canada. Their titles are: Technical and Vocational - - -Training in Canada, Unemployment Insurance in Canada, Labour Management in a Changing World. They are for use with filmstrips which are not extant. One audio disc was issued by the Canada Department of Labour. Its title is: Better Together, Main dans La Main.
