Fonds consists of a recruitment letter dated 15 May 1915 looking for agents to sell and promote Bradley-Garretson publications. Along with the letter are the postmarked envelope and a return envelope, and three advertising supplements that accompanied the letter. One flyer promotes a publication detailing the sinking of the Lusitania. A second promotes a book entitled The World's Greatest War. The final large poster promotes the book Billy Sunday: The Man and His Message. These supplements were tools used by the agents to promote sales of these publications.

The fonds consists of two series. One series contains correspondence, submissions, photographs (both used and not used) and issue files for Canada: An Historical Magazine. The other series contains microfilms of historical research materials that Gagan used for his book, Hopeful Travellers: Families, Land and Social Change in Mid-Victorian Peel County, Canada West (c 1981). The fonds consists of printed and signed ephemera issued in various series. A few leaflets and pamphlets were issued in the preliminary or "Zero Series", most of them in extremely limited runs (as few as five in some cases). The main series also began in 1979, and as of mid-1983 the press had issued over 200 items. The majority of these are small in format and the runs vary from 25 to 200. Most are printed with rubber stamps, but typesetting and photocopying are also used occasionally. There have been many accruals to the fonds, beginning in 1983 and ending in 2000.

There have been four accruals. The first accrual is organized into four series: correspondence, 1968-1981; editorial files, 1981-1983; Art Department photographs, 1927-[1983?]; Scrapbooks, 1960-1976. Authors in the correspondence series include: Lovat Dickson, Hugh Garner, John Glassco, Norman Levine, George Woodcock, Margaret Atwood, Pierre Berton, Matt Cohen, John Robert Colombo, Marian Engel, Mavis Gallant, Margaret Laurence, Brian Moore, Peter C. Newman, Mordecai Richler, Michael Bliss, Kenneth McNaught, George Bowering, Louis Dudek, George Faludy, Ralph Gustafson, Irving Layton, Dennis Lee, Dorothy Livesay, Susan Musgrave, Michael Ondaatje, Miriam Waddington and Tom Wayman. This accrual reflects, to a very marked degree, the tenure of Robert Fulford.

The second accrual (13-2002) is organized into 6 series : Writers Files kept by editor Paul Wilson; Letters to the editor (Christina Brandao, John Fraser, Lisa Rundle, Robert Weaver and Kenneth Whyte); Production; Awards and photographs; News clippings and Card index. This accrual was received with a book collection and issues of Saturday Night from the 1930s and 1940s with a few earlier issues. The book collection and journals are listed separately and will be catalogued for Research Collections independently of this accrual. The third accrual (02-2003) is organized into 3 series: Editorial correspondence; Writers Files and Awards and Letters to the Editor. When the magazine suspended publication in 2005, all files at St. Joseph Media offices were removed; they did not come to McMaster. The fourth accrual (27-2007) consists of printed materials re the history of Saturday Night compiled by George Fetherling.

The fifth accrual (20-1993 acc.) concerns his agency.
