    Administrative history

    Colin Smythe, the founder of Colin Smythe Limited Publishers, was born in Berkshire, England. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. He returned to England and in 1966 established Colin Smythe Limited, in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. The firm specializes in Anglo-Irish literature. In 1987 he was presented with an award from the Association of Anglo-Irish Literature in Dublin.

    The fonds contains: books; correspondence; miscellaneous including clippings, desk ornaments and signs, art work, photographs, and music sheets; financial records; publishing files, business and financial material; and other material.     The first accrual was acquired in September 1976; second accrual in March 1980; third accrual in 1981; fourth accrual in 1982; fifth accrual in March 1986; sixth accrual in December 1987; seventh accrual in April 1994, although its accrual number is 31-1995, all from Colin Smythe.

    Arrangement

    There have been seven accruals. The first accrual is arranged into the following series: books; correspondence; miscellaneous including clippings, desk ornaments and signs, art work, photographs, and music sheets; financial records. The second accrual is arranged into the following series: publishing files, art work, business and financial. The third accrual is arranged into the following series: publishing files, rejected authors, business and financial. The fourth accrual is arranged into the following series: publishing files, business correspondence, financial correspondence. The fifth accrual is arranged into the following series: editorial, business and financial. The sixth and seventh accruals have not yet been sorted, arranged, or described, but they have been measured. The fonds is supplemented by a book collection which has not yet been catalogued.
