There have been twelve accruals. The second accrual (09-1988) consists of materials which had been kept in McClelland's home in Kleinburg, Ont. It has been arranged as follows: personal, 1957-1987 (includes day files for 1967 and 1986-1987, correspondence, photographs, vacations); general business correspondence, 1954-1986 (includes author files); administration, 1904-1985; editorial, 1922-1986 (includes author files); financial, 1910-1986; marketing, 1940-1986; subsidiaries and agencies, 1921-1985; news clippings; awards, plaques and memorabilia, 1939-1985. Boxes 24-41.

The third accrual (03-1991) partly contains materials relating to Jack McClelland and Associates. It was been arranged as follows: literary agency client files, 1987-1990; literary agent day books, 1987-1989; correspondence concerning projected anthology, 1989; speeches and organizations, 1984-1990; Seal/Bantam correspondence, 1983-1989; Roloff Beny estate, 1978-1990; McClelland and Stewart material (includes photographs, correspondence and a manuscript), 1921-1989; personal--school, war service and family, ca. 1920-1989; personal--correspondence; personal--financial, 1952-1989; personal--realia. The fourth accrual (45-1992) concerns his agency and the Roloff Beny Foundation. It has been arranged as follows: administrative, 1988-1991; business; correspondence, general and author, arranged alphabetically; Roloff Beny, 1987-1992. Boxes 58-65.

The fifth accrual (20-1993 acc.) concerns his agency. It has been arranged as follows: speeches, manuscripts and personal materials, 1989-1993; personal correspondence (includes day books for 1990-1992), 1990-1993; financial and correspondence, 1989-1992; Roloff Beny Foundation, 1984-1993; author and publishing correspondence, 1988-1992. The sixth accrual (15-1994). Only a small amount of this material concerns the agency. The ninth accrual (38-1997) has been arranged as follows: correspondence, 1995-1997; news clippings, 1996; Roloff Beny Estate/Foundation,; day calendar sheets, 1996-1997; household accounts book, 1981-1985. Box 86.

The tenth accrual (09-2006) consists of correspondence, writings, financial, legal and personal documents, writing by others and printed materials (catalogues). Boxes 87-88.

The eleventh accrual (41-2007) consists of writings (mainly his memoir), correspondence, legal and personal documents, royalties, writings by others and printed materials.

The twelfth accrual (29-2008) is the Coat of Many Authors.

There have been four accruals. The first accrual is organized into four series: correspondence, 1968-1981; editorial files, 1981-1983; Art Department photographs, 1927-[1983?]; Scrapbooks, 1960-1976. Authors in the correspondence series include: Lovat Dickson, Hugh Garner, John Glassco, Norman Levine, George Woodcock, Margaret Atwood, Pierre Berton, Matt Cohen, John Robert Colombo, Marian Engel, Mavis Gallant, Margaret Laurence, Brian Moore, Peter C. Newman, Mordecai Richler, Michael Bliss, Kenneth McNaught, George Bowering, Louis Dudek, George Faludy, Ralph Gustafson, Irving Layton, Dennis Lee, Dorothy Livesay, Susan Musgrave, Michael Ondaatje, Miriam Waddington and Tom Wayman. This accrual reflects, to a very marked degree, the tenure of Robert Fulford.

The second accrual (13-2002) is organized into 6 series : Writers Files kept by editor Paul Wilson; Letters to the editor (Christina Brandao, John Fraser, Lisa Rundle, Robert Weaver and Kenneth Whyte); Production; Awards and photographs; News clippings and Card index. This accrual was received with a book collection and issues of Saturday Night from the 1930s and 1940s with a few earlier issues. The book collection and journals are listed separately and will be catalogued for Research Collections independently of this accrual. The third accrual (02-2003) is organized into 3 series: Editorial correspondence; Writers Files and Awards and Letters to the Editor. When the magazine suspended publication in 2005, all files at St. Joseph Media offices were removed; they did not come to McMaster. The fourth accrual (27-2007) consists of printed materials re the history of Saturday Night compiled by George Fetherling.

The fonds consists of material created during Farr’s career. The McGill University Press material includes the initial proposal document, newspaper clippings, early design prototypes, and graphic materials produced by the press (page proofs, invitations, greeting cards, prints of R.D. Wilson artwork). The Ryerson Press material includes two logo blocks (publisher’s device), newspaper clippings, and various administrative files. Also included in the fonds: correspondence with Marsh Jeanneret, Donald Sutherland, Dick Wilson and W.H. Clarke from Clarke, Irwin & Co. Ltd.; photographs; an unpublished manuscript entitled The Crooked Axe: A Lighthearted Sketch of Canadian History to 1900 written by Farr in 2008 (unpublished at time of this description), and a copy of The Living Past of Montreal, McGill University Press, 1964, drawn by R.D. Wilson, described by Eric McLean.

The fonds consists of printed and signed ephemera issued in various series. A few leaflets and pamphlets were issued in the preliminary or "Zero Series", most of them in extremely limited runs (as few as five in some cases). The main series also began in 1979, and as of mid-1983 the press had issued over 200 items. The majority of these are small in format and the runs vary from 25 to 200. Most are printed with rubber stamps, but typesetting and photocopying are also used occasionally. There have been many accruals to the fonds, beginning in 1983 and ending in 2000.
