The Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) was founded in 1970 by Hardial Bains as a party for the working classes.

The Dickens Fellowship is an organization devoted to the study and appreciation of the works of Charles Dickens. It also has a philanthropic side in charitable causes related to children. Numerous branches of the Fellowship have been established throughout the world. The Hamilton branch (no. 47) was founded on 5 February 1908. It suspended its activities in 1912 and resumed meetings on 26 January 1931. The last known activity of the branch was at the Annual Conference held in Bath, May 1939, though it was still listed in the Dickensian, the Fellowship's journal, in the 1946/47 Winter issue. The Hamilton chapter is among the list of branches "lost during the war" in the Fall 1947 issue of the Dickensian.

Dominion Steel Casting Company Limited was incorporated under the Companies Act of the Dominion of Canada in 1912 by Clifton and Frank Sherman. They added the Dominion Steel Foundry Company in 1913. In 1917, they became Dominion Foundries and Steel Limited. The company officially changed its name to Dofasco in 1980, though it had long been a popular nickname. In 2006, they were acquired by Arcelor and are now a standalone subsidiary of ArcelorMittal.

The Fédération des travailleurs du Québec (Quebec Federation of Labour) is one of the provincial affiliates of the Canadian Labour Congress. The collection consists of printed materials including convention working papers and addresses and press releases.

The Socialist Party of Canada was founded in 1904 when the Socialist Party of British Columbia merged with the Canadian Socialist League. By 1910 the party stretched across Canada. The party's philosophy is revolutionary, holding a view known as "impossibilism", that is that capitalism is not capable of being reformed. Support for the party waned after the collapse of the 1919 general strikes. The Socialist Party of Canada is affiliated with the World Socialist Party of the United States and the Socialist Party of Great Britain.

The United Packinghouse Workers of America (UPWA), later the United Packinghouse, Food and Allied Workers, was a labor union that represented workers in the meatpacking industry.

Sueños : Dreams was a magazine which published poetry and art related directly or indirectly to dreams. There appears to have been five issues in total, with the last issue a double one. Issues 1 and 2 appear to have been published in Puebla, Mexico, issue 3 was published in Los Altos, California, and issue 4-5 (a double issue) may have been published in Edmonton, Alberta. The editor was Bjarne Tokerud.

Muskoka Cottage Sanatorium was located on Lake Muskoka, north of Gravenhurst, Ont. It was established in 1897 as a 35-bed tuberculosis hospital and was the first of its kind in Canada. It was not closed until 1994, although it had long ceased to be a sanatorium. The Ontario Department of Health used it for other purposes.

In August 1936, the Home Office of the British Government directed every municipality in Britain to develop an Air Raid Precautionary (ARP) programme, primarily to establish and maintain air raid shelters for the local population in the event of war. The Westminster City Council (WCC) in London instructed the Westminster City Engineer’s Office forthwith to begin programme responsibilities including the following: in 1937 and early 1938 to establish criteria and policy relevant to ARP activities, and develop voluntary cooperation with local commercial businesses; in 1938 and 1939 to survey the basements of all residential and commercial buildings within the Westminster City boundaries for their suitability or potential modification as shelters; to supervise the modification of basements to provide basement shelters in commercial buildings, and to provide ongoing maintenance, signage and hours of opening; to decide upon criteria for requisitioning or decommissioning a shelter, and to supervise all inspections of such shelters, also to undertake ARP matters not directly related to shelters, but of engineering concern.

During World War II the Engineer’s Office was damaged by enemy action in March 1940, and the office was moved from Alhambra House to Fanum House until September 1945. The City Engineer’s Office was responsible for furnishing, staffing, modification and operation of the temporary headquarters. Formal decommissioning of air raid shelters began on 30 May 1945, but matters concerning the former shelters routinely reached the office until the mid-1950s. With the commencement of the Cold War, the City Engineer’s Office also was prepared to redo the survey of basements. A few completed forms from this survey are extant, reaching into the 1960s.
