History

Archibald Macdonald was born in Callander, Perthshire, Scotland in 1786 or 1787. He was commissioned a lieutenant on 25 July 1805 in the 35th Regiment. He served in the Mediterranean during the Napoleonic Wars. He came to Canada in 1819 and settled beside Rice Lake, near Cobourg, Ont. He served as a member of the provincial legislature from 1831-1834. He died in 1872.
